Half the problem is already solved. We know that we have a self, due to that 'self-awareness'..... Let us maintain it with improvement in the quality of that watching the self. Gradually, the perceptions levels would deepen, even way beyond the sensory levels, and then, things would happen by itself!

Many literates too do not agree the self, WITHIN. They are after the needs of body & not willing to evolve by MIND & SOUL.
To go within & to know the self pick up a path, sincerely practice the techniques & MEDITATE. One day you will realize the TRUTH.

Meditation and brutal (self) honesty is how I've come to know myself. That, and I'm never happy with the easy answers.
For instance, if I have a headache I wont automatically reach for a pill. I dive inside myself to see what caused the headache to begin with so I have a chance to keep it away in the future.
If I have a nightmare- WHY, did I have it.
If I'm reacting to something with anger or fear WHAT is the root of the emotion?

I wonder if I drove my parents insane when I was in my terrible two's with all my "why, why, why" questions lol. I never out grew it.

Hello! I think we all intuitively know the self within us...The problem is accepting that self and nurturing it. I think as we get older and progress down the path set out for us, we learn to know and trust our inner self...One of the greatest things in life is accepting and loving ourselves (from within) and being comfortable in our own skin so to speak. It is very tough being at odds within your own physical self (ie. teenage years especially)...Just trust that you are exactly how you are and where you are at this time in life. Everything else will fall into place...but u already do know 'the self within'...let it shine! God Bless and Happy Holidays!

To know the self within we have to consciously know the one outside. By this I mean we need to yearn, learn, rationally accept, have faith, and discover the entity which holds us all, which is all. That common thread when we are able to recognize in each and everything material and immaterial, is when we shall find ourselves as a part of that thread adn the fabric at large. To know what's within we need to look out and to know whats out we need to look within. it is a two way cycle / approach.

Confusing right?

well thats the confusion we need to overcome to know whats within n what's out!

Cheers!

First - realize it at an intellectual level. Then try to go in realize it. Be aware and witness your body, mind, intellect and ego. One who is witnessing is the self, rest all are objects and should be dropped one by one.

Self is always there, even when you are in deep-sleep. In deep-sleep, we know that we were not there. The one who knows that it "knows not", is the Self. The one who was not there was your ego, which was dormant in deep-sleep.
