If you take a three year break do you lose the muscles that you worked hard to get, or do they still remain under all the fat
I felt like it was worthless to put all that effort then just quit

You don't use it, you loose it. Your body naturally falls to the lowerst energy requirement. Muscles require a lot more energy to maintain than fat. However, depending on how old you are when you were exercising hard it might still have positive effects on your body. It is very important to be healthy when you were young and developing. Gives you a better foundation to crash on later.

Any amount of excises is worth it . So you quit for awhile
get back at it. go slow at first you don't want to hurt yourself
and that muscle is still there it just got lazy. You been there so you know how good it feels after a work out. You know it will help your heart and lower your cholesterol. and the Lady's love it

I went for a while without working my muscles and I could swear it took no time at all to regain them after restarting my workout routine. All you can do to really answer the question is start working out again and see what happens...

They are the same muscles, but now they are flabby. Get back to work and stay with it. It was not worthless to do the work. Why did you quit?

Of course you can get fit again but this time do it properly with help from a professional fitness trainer who has written a great book which will give you the incentive to stay in good condition for many years.
