That is the beauty of Hinduism... we dont reject any thought, any analysis of the universe, even if it is against hinduism..
Sage charwak concluded that there is no afterlife, no god... this body is what we have.. and worked hard on keeping this body fit.
Hinduism respected him for his research and adored him as sage, as he researched at least... even though his conclusions were not in conformity with hinduism

Charvaaka is considered a sage as he believed in the moment.....he said only this moment exist which is quite spirtiutal way to understand life.....i havent much read him, however what if feel is that life can be explained either way....an atheist says that nothing exists after death....in a way it is right as my physical identity would be over forever and that is the end of myself physically......my new life would spell a different world with different body so physically there is no connection between these two living........
probabaly what charvaak wanted to say is that if one is in the momement completely it doesnt create any chain of karmas and as the state of awareness about present brings end of past and future......

There is NO word Charvaaka in Sanskrit-it does not make any sense. The real word isCHAARUVAAKAA. Chaaru+ Vaakaa=Chaaruvaakaa.Charuvaakaas are a group of persons.Chaaru=(means)Sweet juice (like sugar cane juice)--Vaakaa=(means) Speaker.-(See Unit 23 in Jiva in internet)--In Tharka Saastram(Sience of argument) a few groups are identified- like:-Jalpam=a person who uses allegories and difficult Vocabularies in argument-but absolutely No substance---Vidhanta=(means) a fellow without listening the opponent's argument repeating what he/she wants to say like a Parrot---Chaaruvaakaa is one who speaks in very sweet way but an Atheist.Rishi Jaapaali in Vaalmiki Ramaayanam is one example. Some of their recitations are"Savaha Esha Purusho Annamaya Rasaha"=the body without life is Annamaya rasam -when vedham (Anna Sooktham says) "Annam is brahma -then body without life is also Brahman---"Anyo Antharaathma PraanamaYa--Manomayaha"=and also the inner soul is due to respiration and activity of mind." This is actually a very clever twisting of Vedic saying " Anaamaya, Praanamaya ,Aanadhamaya,Vigjnaanamayaathmaanay subyanthaam -jyothir Aham viraajaadhi paapma bhuyaagaggiswaaha"(Atahrava Vedham)--like this by sweet words they used to cheat people and spread Atheism.

Charvak was a heterodox philosopher who founded the school of materialistic philosphy. Charvak philosophy rejects God and life after death. This school contributed towards refutations of proofs of existence of God. Those very proofs which are still being debated by xians.
This school was the first to treat arts as purely aestheics and a source of sensual leasures.
Yes, he is still treated as a Sage.

It is an unfortunate thing of Kaliyuga that false beliefs are accepted and applauded by people
However the view of Charvaaka is against philosophy of Hinduism and there may have been various "school of thoughts" that were known , accepted or rejected by people of the religion but the religion is represented not by every tom, Dik and harry but by the Vedas.
