A common misconception is that Jehovah's Witnesses go from door-to-door because they feel it is their duty to "recruit" a householder, or get him to "convert". In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door-to-door even if there were no hope that anyone would change their religion, or even if no one would listen to them!

That is because Jesus Christ specifically assigned the house-to-house ministry to the Christian congregation, with no regard for specific results.

(Luke 10:1,2) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.

Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to direct attention to the bible, and move on when their message is unwanted. Since each congregation in the United States tries to call at every home in its territory at least twice each year, there is strong motivation for them to move on where little interest is shown. Also, the Scriptures help the Witnesses to expect little interest from most:

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching ...and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

Well, "Allah" is not what Christians usually call God, that is what Muslims call their god.

As far as being hellbent on converting everyone I talk to, I wouldn't really say I am. I do try to share my faith, but not with every interaction with people.

Could you be thinking more of Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons than Christians, there is a huge difference.

At any rate, I generally will try the waters and see if there is an interest, if there is none, I wait until there is. You can't strong arm another person into believing the Gospel.

People of religious faiths attempt to convert for the same reason so many of them push the 'be fruitful and multiply'. If you have all the members, you have all the power/money/influence. That being said, many true believers try to bring others into the fold because it brought them peace/satisfaction/serenity. And then there are those who ignore the dictates of their religion and let others be. Sounds like a smart move in my book.

You don't live in my neighborhood. I may get an occasional JW come to the door but I don't answer and they leave me a booklet that I may or may not look at. I have a relative that is Mormon they tried once, gave up and never bother me about it. Maybe, once a year someone gives me a card with some religious comments. It's not a problem. I live in the Bible belt, where in the world do you.

In fairness, not all Christians are like that (though many are) because they believe completely that there God/Jesus Christ is the one true God, and that if you don't believe in him, your soul won't be saved. That messianic conviction carried into Islam, which is why you now see those two religions at loggerheads. As for myself, I'm sticking with Odin and Thor, with a healthy dose of Zen thrown in for good measure.

It's a good question. Religions - as mass organizations - seek to drum up as many loyal followers as they can, because religion is big business! Seriously, take a look at the history of the Catholic Church (one of the most corrupt institutions of all time) - much of its existence has been about making money off the backs and feeble minds of its followers, a practice that continues today. Fundamentalist and extreme Christians (as well as fundamentalist and Wahabbi Muslims) seek glory not only for themselves, but to grow the masses for the benefit of the organization.

Save your time, save your money, but most importantly - save your mind.

As a Pagan I have noted that usually just the extremist push it on you. The average one usually does not bring it up.

That has been my experience at least. I have seen more hate on Y!A than in real life with this subject. The closed minds of some people baffle me.

I'm not. Because I know that God does not want some people. So if your question strikes me as being 'seeking', I might respond with an answer that is for the seeker.

If your question is typical to that of an Atheist, then I might answer for those who might be seeking and wondering what kind of answer a Christian might give.

So my answers are not always for the asker.

No. Conversion is not the point of a man's life. But to point to solid ground only. After that, nothing further needs attending to by man.

They simply make fools of themselves. I do not know why they love being humiliated. They babble on and on about a book that has no bearing of today's life. They insist on a deity that lives in the sky and has a son that you must believe in or burn in hell forever. If that's not enough they tell you that they await a dead savior who will take them into the clouds with him after he is done bringing death and destruction to this planet. If they ever listened to themselves they would become silent mutes.
