I have been avoiding the DA, I do not want to go to court!! She called today (on my machine) and said I would be supenod to trial as victim and witness for my X boyfriends Domestic violence towards me. I put all this abuse behind me and don't want to re live it. I have been hurt enough, now fear his HIGH power attorneys are going to twist and turn the truth to make me feel even more insecure than I already do! What kind of questions do they ask me? Do they ask personal, non related questions? Will his attorney find skeletons in my closet? or make them up?

Your ex's attorney will try and asking probing, unrelated questions to make you look bad. Its their job.

The DA, should be shielding you from those and shutting down the questions before you answer. "I object!" you will hear it a lot.

Talk to the DA, and listen to the instructions they will give you. They will help a lot.

Good luck.

I know this sounds weird, but remember the DA is on your side. He wants to see this guy locked up for what he did to you. Many domestic violence victims find a freedom in standing up to their accuser and making him pay the consequences of his crimes.

But work with the DA. You say you put it behind you, but you never really can with something like that. Keep in mind the torture he put you through. If you don't testify, he can do that to other people as well.

There are circumstances where you can be questioned without him present, testify by phone or the like. The DA can help you with that and what your options are. But don't you want to see him led away in handcuffs? He can't hurt you anymore.

As far as personal questions- they can ask some, but they have to be relevant to the case. The DA will object and prevent you from answering alot. Just don't give out too much information. The whole point is he was abusive to you, not what you do in your daily life.
