Yes this is all theoretical. If the U.S. were invaded and there were a few U.S. citizens that actively avoided defending the country even though they were physically able. What would be an appropriate punishment?

A few would be put to death and then the rest, if they had any sense, would fall in line just like the rest of us and do their duty.

I was always fond of Roman's handling of cowards. Sew te person in a sack with a few snakes a cat and a few rats. Throw it in te water and see what happens. I believe it was after 3 days if still alive they then dressed the guy in women's clothes and trew them from a high cliff.

But as a combat vet, know what's worse? A person lacking the will to fight and leaving his commrads at risk. As time has passed, I respect those that step forward and say they cannot serve or fight. Just don't tell me later as some often do about how they wanted to join, wanted to fight but weren't allowed in. A famous newscaster did this, a famous musician or two. And many others as well. Honest answer. Knowing the outcome of Viet Nam, would I do it all over? No Way! If they had the resolve to win as could have easily been done, I would give my best and would have done multiple tours if needed. Defend from invasion? Yes, but that is now moot. With my 60th birthday I am no longer eligible for the militia. So it passes to a younger generation. And it is those between 18 and 25 that are draft material.

If they show their yellow bellies in the US again, death. Otherwise, exile.

I've said this before on other answers, but to those who would leave in a time of need like that, I say good riddance. We would be better off without them here in our country whining over everything, yet giving nothing.

well that depends if the US lost there would probably be no punishment but if the US won and they stayed gone then they should never be allowed back into the US, but if they attempted to return I think they should be put to death as traitors just like I think that all the draft dodgers from NAM should be put to death.

Well if that happened they would die. If you don't defend yourself against someone trying to kill you, you die.

I doubt if we were invaded we would be spending a lot of time doing paperwork.

The U.S. has been invaded, in more ways than one.

Globalization and the destruction of the middle class is just one form of invasion.

Loss of good paying jobs, another form of invasion.

What's left to defend?

If I had a good paying job, I'd want to fight to the finish to keep it.

Otherwise, it's all about keeping the rich richer.

I don't like rich people.

Nothing.

Although your title states "draft", your question does not indicate that a draft is in place.

As long as they did not provide aid and succor to the enemy, leave them be.
