Its like 6 hours drive, lots of drama in the famliy right now. I just want to stay at home with my family, chill, relax, play my new wii and not fool with all the stupidity. Not to mention the money to save on gas and eating out. Is this selfish of me?

If you dont want to go then don't. You do not want to show up and be moody. Stay at home and play the wii, I have plans to do the same...just got Mario Galaxy :)

Uh, NO! Families can be annoying. I know exactly what you mean. We had to move back to where my family lives... but if we were still 5 hrs away I'd be thinking the same thing and just want to stay there and spend the holidays together... just me, my husband and our son!
It's like, you love your family and all that, but the family you've made on your own is just so much more fun to be around and to be a part of... (for me anyway)
BUT the holidays are a time to get together, so... put your other stuff on hold, suck it up... get in the car... and make a bunch of people happy.

When all said and done, Christmas comes round once a year and if you can't make the effort then to "appear" concerned, then yeah ... that's selfish.

But hey, knowing it's all "false" and that they're probably putting on an act too, makes it all seem pointless, I agree. Christmas is no longer about the birth of the saviour of mankind, it's all about Santa Claus if you ask the kids and all about who's going to buy the most expensive gadget if you ask anyone else.

Why put on an act and feel unconfortable sitting around pretending to be cheery and interested, when all you are actually doing is watching the clock?

That's what I did last year and I couldn't wait to get home, admittedly this year I don't have my online friend to dash home to but then again, I wouldn't want to sit around knowing everyone else is faking it either.

no not really. Personally I think x-mas is a man made holiday that does nothing except cause stress. If there is drama going on with your family as well, then I don't think there is anything wrong with skipping out. It's A LOT of gas money too....

on one hand, its not wrong of you as you have your own family and you should spend christmas with them..on the other hand it is as you're only thinking of the money to save on gas and eating out, cause you also spend money on gas when you're driving maybe to go to work, so it is a bit selfish of you not wanting to visit your family just for those reasons!

it's not. obviously you dont want to deal with all the fuss. and even though it is the holidays, there's drama, and that'll cause so much problems for you, you wont be in a good mood driving there and driving back. just stay where you are, not everyone must spend time wit the family, although its nicer to, but in a case like that, just have time for yourself.

No way....I had so much drama from my dysfunctional family last year...
I'm skipping Christmas, this year and taking a trip to Jamaica in January.
Just to have something good to look forward to!

ummm i dont think its selfish but in the end i think u might regret ur desicion...sometimes we all have to do what we dont want to but even if their is alot of drama in the family their is in every family. However, its ur family and thts why u love them. i mean it might be saving u gas money and a long drive but by going your savng ur mom from many tears. I mean im sure she would want to see her son on christmas what normal mother wouldn't????

Not needed. Relax at home. You will get some rest and also save money and petrol.

nope...not at all in my view. Just because it's x-mas, people shouldn't make a big deal out of it (hopefully your family won't), Christmas should be a time to reflect, give thanks, and just chill out, and if you can't do that with your family... then that's not where you should be right now!
