many names with GOLD in them are of Hebrew descent, like Goldman, Goldberg, Goldsmith.

I have read the first answerer's reply with interest:

The term "Anglo-American" displays a commendable cultural optimism, but I am afraid that the only names that originated in America are indigenous names (i.e. those of "Native Americans") or those that were spelt incorrectly by US immigration authorities when people emigrated to America.

Neither Gold nor Hopper are remotely French, so it clearly is not of Norman origin.

The word "Goldhopper" means "Golden jumper" in Norwegian but I have no idea if that is the origin of the name.

GrahamH,
Goldhopper doesn't mean "Golden jumper in Norwegian".
In Norwegian, "golden" is "gylden", not "gold"! "hopper" does indeed mean a "jumper" or "vaulter"
