I always get bored when I exercise. I think it's because I'm always doing a billion things at once, so I'm used to that -- I'll be watching TV, IM chatting a few people, playing with the cats, web surfing a few tabbed windows, etc. I bounce back and forth. Meditation and yoga? Totally impossible for me.

The problem when I exercise is I get bored. I try riding the back and watching TV or reading, and I get all antsy. Just walking around bores me unless it's a new environment (and preferably something like, say, Disney World -- that never bores me).

I'm too overweight and unfit now to feel comfortable playing a team sport. So far, the best thing I've found is Dance Dance Revolution -- but even with half a dozen games, it gets old. Maybe some Wii games would entertain AND exercise me? I always hear about people getting a workout, but I'm not sure what games they play. I thought about juggling, that's at least a little more exercise than sitting on my butt. Any other suggestions?

This is why many people listen to music when they exercise, and why some people, who have treadmills, have a book holder on the treadmill so they can read while they walk/jog.

I'm the same way. I find it really difficult to get motivated. The trick is just do things you think you will enjoy, then it doesn't feel like a chore. Buy some roller skates or a trampoline, or go for a long walk while listening to music on your mp3 player, get a stationary bike and cycle in front of your TV, or go your local pool for a swim, maybe get a friend and play some Frisbee in the park. Get imaginative. Exercise doesn't need to be boring. You can change it around and do something different each day. :-)

Okay, I KNOW you said you're too overweight and unfit to feel comfortable playing a team sport...buttttt have you ever looked into rugby?? There are positions on a rugby team for people of ALL shapes and sizes and I PROMISE you, if you put effort into it, you WILL get into shape. It is a demanding game that requires focus on a lot of things at once and the friendships you make with teammates are irreplaceable. It's an incredible game and you should definitely look into it....HOWEVER, if that doesn't quite suit you still, have you ever tried like, a kick boxing class? something quite high energy that you've GOT to focus on that one thing. Or swimming, where it's all about doing several things at once (your arm movements, your breathing, your kicking, turning, pace etc.) and it's fun because i mean, its SWIMMING! and you get a ridiculous work out with little strain on your legs (if you have shin splints or knee problems). I hope this was somewhat helpful to you :)! good luck!

Are you competitive? Join a team (volleyball, badminton, bowling league, basketball). Most gyms have drop in nights where you can play with other people without formally joining a team or even the gym. You just pay the drop in fee. Take up something really wild like rock climbing or ballroom dancing. A sport or activity that depends on you and someone else.

exercise bores you because you have never done it enough to become efficient at it. i'm sure the first couple of times that you you played Half-Life you weren't good at it either. the same applies to exercise, repetition increases neuromuscular effeciency. this is the first step in increasing strength, speed, agility, etc.

it's easy to see who is going to more efficient at performing pull ups:

Guy A - does them 2x a week (or 104 times a year) religiously
Guy B - does them every once and a while and over the course of the year maybe only 30 times.

Try martial arts. Most schools will give you a couple of weeks free trial so you can see if you like it. It doesn't matter what size you are. Everyone is judged on their own ability. Not only is it fun and great exercise but you are learning how to defend yourself and gaining confidence.

yea the billion things u do at once that u mentioned involves u sitting on ur butt. i think u are just lazy and making excuses. try doing math problems in your head while you run on the treadmill.

if you really worked hard enuff u would be too busy working through pain to feel bored.

when i play games and such I always do pushups and situps during load times, or if it is a turn based rpg. basicly I do 25 pushups here and there and it averages out to be about 100-125 pushups and situps per night. while playing videogames! i know im weird but it works if you stick to it.
