why is it needed to rise?i know it makes it rise,but for what?to prevent your teeth from dropping when you bite it,right? -_-

It makes it rise. Otherwise, it would be flat like crackers.

its a rising agent, making the food rise like self-raising flour makes it. 2 tsp of baking powder can be added to 1 cup plain flour so it has the same properties as SR flour.

it does not add to the taste or softness. It is a leavening agent - without it, your bread or cake will not rise.
