Would a man really lie about having a relationship with the mother of his child. He says there was never a relationship whatsoever. Child is and has always been under the care of the child's grandmother so he never really had to deal with the mother. Her pregnancy was due to pure irresponsibility, not planned. His child is now 4. Would he really lie for so long about never having a relationship with her?

There is no reason for me to believe he is lying. I would say he is generally an honest person. We have a trusting relationship. This disbelief has come from things that she has said to me and things that others like family members have said. Then again, we live in a small town and she could have tainted their minds about the situation because they obviously had a child. He was out of town quite a lot so whatever was being said was not known to him.

Oh and as far as what type of relationship....of course they had sexual relationship but he states they were never emotionally involved. Never had a normal functional relationship with her or at least he says.

Irresponsibility or not, a sexual relationship is a given, at least at one time or another for them to even be parents together. So, thinking they could explore old feelings isn't completely unheard of. If he began lying sometime ago, yes he would still continue lying about it to keep the lie from being discovered. I don't know if this is happening or not, I merely say it is possible.

It is possible. But since you don't know for sure, just give him the benefit of the doubt. Base your perception of him by his personality and the way he treats you. Whether or not he had a relationship with her shouldn't affect your relationship in any way as long as he is over her and she is just a thing of the past.

It is possible, but unlikely. What's your evidence that he is lying vs. not? Weigh it up, but you'll never REALLY know. If you are that untrusting then that may say more about you that him.
