I know what you are going through... its tough! You feel like there is no reason for it, but you just feel so low and unhappy.
I am not sure how old you are, but I am in my mid-twenties and I found that I have been through some particularly low times during the last few years... If this sounds like you, I found that I was simply questioning who I was and what I REALLY want to do with my life. Alot of ppl in this age group do. Its when you are out of college and into different workplaces that you start to feel uneasy, unhappy and a little confused. There is no goal anymore (finishing college and getting a job was it beforehand)....
Work could be the source of your problems, as you said you lack motivation. Maybe you need a change of environment to refresh and remotivate? Maybe you need to meet some different people/friends in your life (this was definitely my deal). Or maybe you need to find some new interests outside or work.
I definitely found that when I tackled new hobbies, started meeting new people and changed jobs, I had more motivation and more drive. This made me feel more eager to start the day! Also, I started drinking protein shakes and increasing the amount of protein I consumed as this can promote serotonin production - this will give you a huge boost and make you feel positive and generally happy!
Remember, all of us go through phases like this at some point in our lives - you are not alone!

Maybe you have SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) which is caused by lack or sunlight in the winter.
It feels like a depression and can easily be treated. Take vitamin D with calcium daily, get some sunlight at least 15 minutes a day, exercise (raises mood) and eat healthy. If you eat sugary foods that's bad, sugar is a depressant so is alcohol. Carbs can also be bad for you, so go easy on breads and such too.
Buy a natural sunlight light bulb and sit under that in the morning for 20 minutes reading (eyes have to be open). Or buy yourself a light box, they run about $200.
See if that helps, if not, see a counselor regarding this depression, it may be from something else in your life.
Take care.

The only way to be happy is to learn to be in the now rather than in the future or the past. Whenever you are suffering, it is becuase your mind is twisting around and reliving the past or worrying about the future. If you are in the here and now, you can ususally see that it's a pretty good moment and there's no reason to suffer right now, nothing terrible is happening right now, usually. And even if it is, if you realize your true self, you won't suffer becuase you know that everything that is happening is illusion anyway and you don't have to take it all so seriously. Learning how to be in the now is what ended my depression. Takes a little discipline to police your consciousness and train your mind to stay out of the future and past, but once you learn the habit of being in the now, it all gets better and the future takes care of itself and turns out pretty good becuase you create your future from the now, and if you are relaxed and happy in the now, it sets a good energy for the future to set up in, rather than one that is depressing. If you are depressed, you will attrract more to be depressed about. IF you are happy, you'll attract more to be happy about. REality is a reflection machine that reflects what is in you, so make a pretty picture in your mirror emotionally and mentally, and the reality will have to arrange itself to reflect that.

Sounds like clinical depression. Something has caused a chemical imbalance in your brain. It may be temporary, then again, it may not. Get a physical and a referral to a good therapist. Medication to re balance your brain chemistry may be the solution.

dear Julie life is so full of up and downs and i seem to feel like this alot but the most weirdest thing that seems to pick a person up is sitting quietly and meditating with lavender and rose oils burning and thinking about what is really important to you and what you have and what other people worse of than you dont

mate, I get that ALL THE TIME.
What you need to do is eat some chocolate, smile for the hell of it and find some people who find everything hilariously funny.
