I will be using it for road biking. Thanks to all who have answered to my previous questions. I want to reply but Yahoo Answer doesn't have that option.

I think that the difference between the cheap and expensive helmets is the weight and ventilation. I think they protect the same, just try a few helmets and buy one that's withing your budget and that it's confortable.

All regular bicycle helmets are required to pass the same CPSC standards now, but some of the more expensive helmets can provide a smidgen more protection for a second impact in the same crash because of their inner construction. But mostly, yes....they'll offer the same protection. Like Roberto said, it's mostly about lighter weight (only a little), ventilation, and the all-important feature: STYLE.

Several places are selling their '06 and '07 EDIT: Giro Monza, which is really similar to the Atmos for $80 give or take (originally posted that the Atmos was that price, but my mistake) There are lots of 15% and 20% coupons floating around right now for various internet bike sites, too. Check www.nashbar.com and www.performancebike.com for helmet closeouts. Also, look at the returned-goods or outlet sections of those sites...sometimes you can get a super deal if they have what you want. I haven't bought a current-year helmet in like 10 years.....I think it's silly to pay full overpriced retail on them. I got my '06 Giro Xen from Nashbar for $49, and after the discount, I got the Atmos for $83. Shop smart. :o)
