Actually - St. Louis, MO edged out Detroit this year for the most dangerous city in which to live.
Because of that - my guess would be that E. St. Louis would be the worst for crime. Although it's not St. Louis, MO - it is just across the state line, and the two cities are almost indistinguishable. What affects one would very easily affect the other.

Algiers in N'Awlins isn't NEARLY as bad as some of the really devastated eastern part of the city on the east bank of the river. (For those who didn't know, Algiers is on the west bank of the Mississippi River across from the city of New Orleans.)
There is such a small population in N'Awlins East that the police patrols are limited and the druggies have their little enclaves where violence is common.

They are all a breeding ground for animals that walk on two legs and prey on the weak.
OK, done ranting.
Detroit was just rated most dangerous city in the US. St Louis was 2006's most dangerous. Either way , I wouldn't live in either one for any reason. Cities get this way because their governments have failed.

I believe that Detroit is once again the murder capital of the world.
On a side note, their gun control laws are pretty strict.
