You can clean the outer part of your ear but not the inner canal. When you use a Q-tip this pushes wax (even small amounts) deep into the canal and over time it just builds up and packs in there.
Any ENT will say NO!!!
The BEST way to clean your ears is to put hydrogen peroxide and warm water in your ear (NEVER COLD WATER, this will make you very dizzy!!) and let it sit for about 2 minutes. Then rinse out with either your shower head or a water pic, again WARM water only.
Hope this helps!

Dont put the Q-tip in the ear canal it is not even recommended to put it in there just a little. You can use Q-tips to clean your ears though as long as you dont go near the ear canal.
Some ear wax is good it helps to keep harmful things from getting in your ears but if you have too much and it is a problem then you see a doctor to have it removed.

Putting a Q-tip inside your ear canal is dangerous. Using them to clean the out side is ok but according to my doctor NEVER put anything larger than your elbow inside your ear. In other words do not put anything inside the ear canal.

Be careful with putting stuff in any hole of your body. The Japanese have a far more effective little bamboo scoop that they use and the mayans (i think) have an ear wax candle that is sold at some alternative health stores. The little scoop can probably be found at asian market or novelty stores. Q-tips push wax back into your dome piece.

yeah. my mom went to an ear Dr. and they said don't use Qtips. when you take a shower and wash your hair let the water kinda rush over your ears, then when you get out wipe them with the towel. and then dry your ears with the low setting on your hair dryer. and that qtips sometimes push the ear wax deeper into your ear, they can clog up and your hearing could go (but that takes a lot of ear wax, but you can get them flushed out)
my mom used to used everything to clean her ears. car keys, pen caps, whatever. then she got an infection and that's how the Dr said to clean your ears.
its hard for me not ot use qtips, they work so good.
good luck!

NO NO NO NO Q-tips should NEVER be put in the ear. As new wax is made it pushes the old wax to the surface so you can wash it away with a washcloth. If you put a q-tip in there you can end up pushing the wax in farther and cause it to be impacted. You can also rupture your ear drum.

You should only use Q-Tips outside of the ear canal. (Package recommendation.) Going in can cause wax to be pushed farther in, causing a buildup. Also, you risk possible injury to your delicate ear drum should you slip.
Personally, I go in, otherwise I'm very uncomfortable. My gets wax build up, so she can't.
There are over the counter solutions for wax build up. My daughters pediatrician recommended 1part peroxide to 1part water to clear the blockage.

well the thing is that just don't put the q tip deep into your ear because it will damage the ear canal and you also bring more bacteria inside your ear because you are pushing the bacteria in with your q-tip

as you can't actually see how far you're putting the Qtip into your ear; it's usually advised to get someone else to do it for you.
Preferably someone who knows what they're doing.
