Apparently a lot of people sing in the shower. I do once in a while, but that's because I sing to myself throughout the day anyway (crazy as that may be). So... why is the shower such a special "singing place"? How and why did this phenomenon come to be?

Well, I sing in the shower because I sound awesome in the shower, and that's all there is to it! I can sing some of the most difficult songs that would normally not come out so well, and have them sound amazing purely because of the accustics of the shower! It's amazing. And its a confidence booster, lol. :)

Well I sing everywhere (on stage, in the car, etc...) but the shower is fun because the acoustics are great, it's all echoey in there...
A lot of people sing in the shower because it's private. No one there to hear them. I'm not averse to singing in public though. In fact, it's what I'd like to do for a living!

the acoustics are great! plus you can really let it all hang out! LOL no one can usually hear you. Maybe it has something to do with the warm water and the rub a dub dubbing........I love to sing in the shower. I make up all sorts of songs, and new lyrics to familiar tunes...it is really fun. Of course I do that a lot during the day around the house too...like Elephant Boy and the Lima Bean song

I think the appeal is that singing brings some joy into an otherwise dull, mundane activity. And the shower is one of few places where we are assured some solitude. We don't have to be self conscious about our crappy singing ability!

Well,one possible explanation is, that there is a mild euphoria produced by changes in the serotonin level of the brain,caused by the release of negative ions from the pounding of water on the tiled shower floor.....Remember the song,"Singing in the Rain"?..same cause,same effect...
Everyone else in the house experiences an opposite effect,as their serotonin levels reach a new low...LOL

# 1: i think people feel that like they are complelty alone in the shower, so they aren't as bashful.
also, it's probably just me, but sometimes i can hear a beat in the water hitting me, or the floor and it just reminds me of a song, and i start to sing the song. same thing happens when i mow the lawn, i can hear a beat in the engine or something, and a song pops into my head.

Yes. I sing a lot of songs in the shower, but have a preference for "Lyla" by Oasis and "5/4" by Gorillaz.

I agree it is the acoustics, and the fact that the water can drown out a sour note! Pleasant way to pass the time!

I like to sing hymns in the shower. It makes me feel like Jesus is washing away my sins while I'm washing away the physical dirt.
