Whoa!!
I said most black people "I MEET".
I'm not racist, it's just an observation.
Most black peole I talk to can't speak english correctly or choose not to. I'm just curious why this happens.

So why is talking proper English, "sounding white".
Shouldn't it sound "American". This is our language. 99% of these people were born in this country, just like me. I don't speak with a Pollish accent, even though my Dad is 100% Pollish. My wife's dad speaks proper English even though his mom was from Tennessee and spoke with a STRONG southern drawl. I have to think it's a way of purposely seperating themselves from main stream America. If all black people lived in a certain area of the country then there would be a reason for ebonics. Like my old man told me -- If you wanna dress different, talk different, and act different, be prepared to be treated different (which it took me a long time to understand). My uniquity was a product of youth and fighting the establishment. Sooner or later, I learned that I had to contribute to society to make "civilization" work. I had to agree on certain codes of my community to get the same respect.

I am happy that you used the word most. There are a couple of reasons why some black people don't speak correct English. First, there are not a lot of positive people for blacks to follow. So, we look at rappers who seem to be successful, rich, and happy, and mimic that persona. Then, some people are just ignorant, I'm not just talking about black people. I attend school in Alabama and the white people there are the worst, it is almost like they are too lazy to open there mouths. But what I was saying, is that the lack of education of our mothers and fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers has been passed down from generation to generation. Lastly, it is a cultural thing for some people it is like having there own language that helps them fit into there surroundings. Like you said they may even go to the same school as you, but that is even more of a reason for them to speak the way they do. In the black community blacks who attend white schools are sometime looked down upon because people who don't have the opportunity to go to a "good" school may bash them because they feel like someone who is getting a better education may think that they are better than them. So, sometimes that is how people prove there "blackness".

Racist some of a b i t c h! It's not "MOST" black people mimmicking! It's our CULTURE, and it appears to be that way.
Again, ebonics is also a part of our CULTURE. So, don't be fooled that black people "don't" talk proper english. Believe it or not, a white person can grow up in a black community & you'd swear they were "acting" black. But'...that's just the way it is! Do you have a problem with black people who are not proper as you????? As a matter of fact, what school did you attend? Your grammar isn't so hot, ya know?

Yeah, like above (someone said): You should ask that question in person! :)

It's not that we don't speak proper English we just have our own way of speech. Those black people you know fake the way they talk. People only speak and sound the way they are raised. I have many black family members who speak English clearly. Some of them even sound white. My Friend has a sister who speaks white English clearly too and no one taught her she was just born like that. She sounds real proper and white.

You don't talk proper English you speak it. We haven't met the black people you claim to have met. Ask those black people why they do what they do and they can answer you. None of the black people I know go around mimicking rappers. Where do you go to school? Where are you meeting these rapping black people jail/prison?

ask a black person in school why don't you? that way you'll get it from the most sought after sort. I've seen white people mimic characters to a T too. Do some research--your thinking is very small.

It's because they view these people as successful, and most people try to emulate those that we choose as role models. Others may not see the rapper in the same way, but they see famous rappers as people that command power and respect and that is something they want for themselves, so they act like their role models, in hope that they appear to others the same way.

This is a tired assertion. Whites buy far more rap music than blacks. We are innovators of culture, historically, it's been the whites [no offense] that have cannibalized everything they've encountered.

I also think this is a question that should be asked in person.
