It seems that the older you get the smaller the pool from which you are able to draw. Am I right or wrong on that...?

I have to agree with this. I also think that people become more jaded as they get older. It's like when you are young, it is easier for you to feel like you have a crush on someone or are in love. When you get older, you don't get it happening as often. It's like your heart closes up more. That's why people say things like "I haven't felt like this since I was a teenager."
