Maybe because they have a Jewish/Kosher section in the cultural foods section in the grocery store.

Jewish is the only one in the world that can be both. There is Judaism and its followers are called Jews or Jewish. There are people of Jewish decent who are also called Jews, but not Jewish.
You can be an ethnic Jew and not Jewish. You can be Jewish in faith, but not a Jew.

There is no wrong with you.You are a jewish as an ethic or a race.Just the same with me as Indonesian.Your religion is judaism just the same with anothe religion christianity. These 2 religions were given by God through the prophet of Moses for Judaism with its Torah and the propher of Jesus for Chrisrianity. with its Bible as the holy book as the life guide. But as you know God's life guide has been updated by holy Qur'an through Muhammad pbuh. You must understand it and practise in your daily life if you want a happy and safety life here on earth and in the eternal life after death..God spoke in the Qur'an that all babies born as muslims.Their parents and the environment make them Jewish,Christians and muslims or other religion followers.I as a muslim do not hate Jewish as long as he/she respect me.You and me just the same as a creation of God.I do not want to be Indonesian but God as the greatest creator has decided me as the Indonesian.

one is only Jewish if their beliefs are in line with the core principles of Judaism, or at very least, not contradictory.
there is a cultural aspect. but to be part of that group, requires at least not believing things that are fundamentally contradictory.
for example, if a person who is born Jewish, comes to believe in Jesus, they are absolutely no longer Jewish.
one can become Jewish, while lacking the ancestory. and one can cease to be Jewish. but at the same time there IS a heritage and ancestory aspect.

All I know about anything Jewish is it always refer to Nazis. It is a famous combination in the history of mankind. Annihilations and redemptions... Hitler seems to be the only name above all those tackled in history. Ah... Also Goring. But of any Jewish name... none, nil... I am sorry about this but it is seems to be the truth in it.

BOTH!
I've known a few people of that persuasion, though I am a non-practicing Catholic.
My boyfriend with whom I live is well-versed in Judaism and in the culture, having been born second-generation and having an Orthodox grandmother (I am now a kosher schiksa).
It can be hard to distinguish, but there are indeed serious differences between one and the other...
the idea is mainly that of belonging, when it comes down to it.
You may not see that,
but between a BA in Psych with soc and anthro classes, all fo the people I've known thrown in, and my own semi-Christian experience, I can tell you one thing- having something in common is the single most important thing in any group- and it can be nominal.
