Well, the more strain you put to your body, the better.

So you should do faster reps with more weight .

But in the scenario given, less reps (hopefully faster) with more weight would build muscle faster.

Building muscle takes a combinations. I would curl a heavey weight about 8 reps 1 set, then use light weight 24 reps. then back to heavey with 8 reps. this will tone and build muscle

How fast they build is related more to weather you have more fast twitch or slow twitch fibers. Typically both styles will build muscle. Heavy weight, lower rep range is generally for mass building and moderate weight with a higher rep range is for making them more visible.
I do a combo of both in my routines. Some will lift for mass for 2 months, then switch to lighter weight with higher reps for the next 2 months. The reason for the 2 month time frame is that it takes time for your body to adjust to vastly different formats....but that's good for the body....it needs a challenge to respond to...

for weight lifting and building muscle faster use more weight and do less repititions with a 10-20 second window in between your 1-3 sets, the reason is that in order for change to occur, the muscle must be challenged into performing more work that it is used to performing.

any properly designed strength or muscle building routine will be based on compound exercises with free weights and supplemented with dumbbells, machines, cables, levers, etc.

ultimately the diet determines the rate of the increase in muscle mass. exercise only provides the neccessary stimulus to skeletal muscle and the central nervous system. that being the case you need to count calories and make sure that your diet is based on whole foods. shoot for macros close to 40% protein, 40% carbs and 20% fats. carbs should be low GI and high fiber like whole oats, beans, lentils. whole grain rice, etc.

Start out with low weight and increase the weight throughout the work out until you can`t lift anymore,no reps just keep increasing until you reach your limit.

As stated above; less reps more weight will build the muscle faster while more reps less weight will tone the muscle faster.

I DISAGREE WITH EDGAR, LESS WEIGHT WILL NOT GET YOU CUT UP, THE ONLY WAY TO GET CUT UP IS BY CONTROLING YOUR DIET, EATING LESS CALORIES THAN YOU BURN. MORE REPS, LESS WEIGHT, WILL GROW MUSCLE, JUST NOT AS FAST AS HEAVY WEIGHTS AND LESS REPS, LIFTING WEIGHTS BUILDS MUSCLE, PERIOD, WEATHER IS LIGHT OR HEAVY WEIGHTS, DEFINITION IS OBTAINED BY DIETING AND CARDIO.

less reps but more weight gets bigger muscles but more reps and less weight cuts u up more
