I never met Malcolm X but have read his biography which basically asked for the creation of a "black" state within the United States. A Muslim view of how to survive in a racist society.

Martin on the other hand started with the Gandhi's non violent dissent. Later Martin moved toward a non radical solution similar to Malcolm, but his death stop this approach.

Neither one were a better leader. They had difference circumstances and different method of obtaining equal right. And it was there death than move actions. Not that they were great leaders, but their followers were able to carry on.

It was LBJ that move the US to a better civil rights, but it has been over a generation (40 years) and we have injustice specifically in the black (poor) communities. More young men in jail and more condemn to death.

But on the other hand, we have leaders like Oprah that moved a senator from Illinois to run for president. If you want leader, try Oprah. Because when you see her, you see more than a black women.

I would say it was Martin Luther King. He preached unity and nonviolence while Malcolm X preached divisiveness and exclusion. That is a major reason why Malcolm X isn't nearly as revered as Martin Luther King is today.

The simple fact of his ideals i being a white nationalist enjoy the non-ignorant racist views of Malcolm X. He taught separation from white society because that would be how both races could prosper. Integration of blacks into white society would benefit neither. However MLK is more historically important to the civil rights movement not better though. I personally feel anyone can talk, but it takes a man to act.

We hardly knew Malcolm x.
This is an unfair Q.

Who was a better leader Arthur Ash or M L King? It is silly.

I'd say Martin Luther King. He was pro-people. He did not have a blatant political agenda and actually promoted civil rights of all people! He seemed more 'color-blind' to me.

Two divergent roads taken.......

I'm fascinated with the life of Malcolm X. He took such a courageous stance during a turbulent time. Ironically, he ended up a victim of black on black crime. I lean towards him only because I think he had a realistic approach. If we can live together, great. If not, then leave me alone and I'll leave you alone. But I'm not asking, I'm demanding.

I gotta go with King. While he had his faults...he never fell to the level of inciting violence. Malcolm had his good points, too...especially after he went to Mecca...but - they shot him dead when he began to preach non-violence and peace.
