Flounder is not a fishy tasting fish....If it has an amonia smell, I would NOT eat it. Flounder is a mild sweet fish, with no fishy taste or smell..

I hate to be the one to tell you this but it's not fresh enough and you probably shouldn't eat it.
Flounder (especially) is a very mild fish. NO fish should have an odor to it though.
If it were me, I'd chuck the whole bunch out and consider it a lesson learned.......Never buy a fish that has a real fishy odor to it.
I've cleaned thousands and they do NOT have that odor then. The more they smell, the older they are.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news and it "could" be ok BUT!!

Flounder will have a somewhat iodine flavor too it. Fresh flounder will NOT have a fishy taste. Return it to the store. If they give you a problem, tell them that you will tell everyone that you know who shops there that they sells sub-standard fish, along with posting it on bulletin boards were you work and on-line. Also that you will not be returning to shop there for anything in the future.

If it smells too fishy, it may be bad fish. I was always taught that if fish had a really strong fishy smell that the fish was bad or close to it. I have heard of people soaking fish in milk to get rid of the strong fishy odor.

If you get a fishy smell it is because the fish as been dead for a while, even when you freeze fresh fish it will smell a bit. All i know is you soak the fish in white vinegar for a little while before cooking, but be careful cos the vinegar will kind of cook the fish if you leave it too long.

If it doesn't have a fresh smell of the ocean it's gone off and should not be used. Probably why you got a huge batch on sale.
