I have lived in Big Bear for most of my life and would not live anywhere else. We get snow throughout the winter season and it is beautiful. The greatest thing about Big Bear is that it is a small town and has that great feeling but is not so small that there is nothing to do. We have two ski resorts, sledding hills all around the town, bowling, movies, a wonderful public lake, parks, hiking trails and so much more. Most people who live here, love it.

We moved away for a short time and moved right back, there is no place like it. One of the best things is that there is little traffic during the week and is close to most attractions in So. California. San Diego is a few hours away depending on where in San Diego you live.

I would say that BigBear has more snow because of the higher elevation and the 2 ski resorts being able to stay in business.

If you go to www.bensweather.com , it is pretty accurate for our local Big Bear weather.

I have grown up here and am now 24 and expecting baby #2. I am staying in BigBear not only because of the 4 seasons but because it is a great place to raise kids. We are a small town so the kids remain important. There are many sports to get involved in, there is a teen center for middle school age kids, there is a new skate park that is open for free and the parks district is improving all of the parks and buying more land to increase activities for the kids. There are times when kids can get board but that is going to happen anywhere, there are always things to do.

We have 3 elementary schools, 1 middle school and a high school. They are working to build a Community College.

My mom is a real estate agent in Big Bear and her site has a lot of information about the city, activities, maps....

If you have questions, you can call her, she is happy to help with any Big Bear Information. Her name is Annette, (909)800-4365.

So many questions...

First, I'd choose Big Bear. Higher elevation, more snow. There's quite a few things to do there, since there's a well-established town. You should be able to find things to do there. You can ski all winter, and mountain bike all spring and summer.

In the summer, it's pretty comfortable, it doesn't get as hot as L.A. In the winter, it gets cold, but you don't necessarily get snow. Last year was very dry, and they got very little snow.

Big Bear is about 100 miles from LA (east of it). Julian is in San Diego County, about 70 miles north of San Diego.

Generally, no. Mostly Texas and other southwestern states. But, if you have a question (especially if it involves someone who's been bitten), the real experts are right at UCR. Their entomology crew is top rate. Usually, the only two you really need to worry about, in North America, are the brown recluse and the black widow, obviously there are plenty of black widows.

whereever you decide...be very careful. All of these areas are VERY HIGH fire areas. Buy lots of fire insurance.
