Are there any other scents associated with the hammock, for example, did your dog sniff it first? Sometimes they don't like the hammocks if they smell strange. If you take it out and rinse it and dry it, then put a bit of their cage bedding in it (it sounds gross, but if it's dirty that's actually better because it will put their scent into the hammock) they will forget about any other scent. If it's not that then maybe they just need more time.

If they've never had a hammock before now, it could take awhile for your rats to become comfortable with the idea. Once, we adopted 2 females who were terrified of us (they were unsocialized feeder bin rats) & highly suspicious of *everything* including the hammock although I tried to make it more attractive by butting nesting material & treats in it. They'd reach in to retrieve the goodies but never climbed into the hammock until the "surprise" babies that 1 girl had began playing in the hammock & the older girls realized that it was a comfortable napping spot, too.

Rats like to burrow and to be cuddled up so they may not like the hammock. Try putting some cloth on it and they may get the idea

They may not realize what they're missing. Let them figure it out on their own terms.

My male (Jigsaw) always chewed his hammocks off the clips, and he would put it in his 'house'. I stopped buying them, since he wasn't getting the purpose of them.
