If my son professed to athiest I would still love him and would know that in his heart that this was just a phase and that someday he would come back to Christ because the seed of Christianity was planted deep into him when he was a child and nurtured along the way .I have enough faith that I know he believes even though he says he doesnt... so after all that I know he will go to heaven because God will be with him even unto the end of the world.

If my son was an atheist, I would be sad that he had limited himself, but I would still love him with all my heart, and do my best to help him grow in any way he was willing and able to.

I do not believe he would "burn in hell" in an eternal sense, although I believe that after he died he would regret not using this life for a more devotional and expansive purpose.

I'm LDS. We believe that eternal reward is merit based... ie you reap what you sow, you are rewarded for each good deed you do/good thing that you allow to come into your soul. It's almost like self-reward.... choice = consequence. "Hell" is not the punishment of God... but rather the natural result of a soul who has not sought enlightenment. It is not literally "eternal suffering"... all suffering will end, and eternity will be a blessed state for all... although some will be more blessed than others.

If my memory of the study of ancient history is correct it was Zarathustra who started that one life cycle and burning in hell forever crap ! It was Dante who wrote Dante's Inferno which was about the 7 heavens and seven hells which some time later the HRC church canonized into sacred or holy Scripture. If I recall correctly, it was St. Thomas Aquinas who started the Angels stuff....

According to my mother, I'll be joining you in hell. And when I go there and she goes to heaven, she won't know I exist and she will finally be happy. She actually said that to me. And she has no idea what I even believe because she has never bothered to ask me. See, I'm not old enough to have opinions of my own. I'm only 28. My daughter is like me, she picks her beliefs from everything I show her and practices what she wants. Which is exactly what I want her to do.

He is my son, nothing else matters. If he is an atheist that is his business. All I would care is if he is a productive member of society with a good job and a strong sense of morality. It's not natural of parents to reject their children. Something is wrong with your parents, try to talk to them. A family can't never break down, you should be united.

I am Muslim and my son is Agnostic- I love him dearly and respect his decisions as long as he makes them after careful contemplation.
I would be disappointed if he just quit anything without weighing the pros and cons and learning the consequences.
He needs to find his own way- I cannot compell him to believe what I do.
And judgement is certainly not up to me- God will judge us on our deeds when the time comes. We just have to follow what we believe is right.
If your parents are really saying that, I think they need to study God's laws a bit more...

Sure I'd love my son, no matter what.

Your parents should not say that to you, that's destructive to your self-image, especially coming from them. However, I do have to wonder what would cause them to see you as a Satanist and not an Atheist ... have you perhaps gone a bit overboard to shock them?

of course i would. bt then again im 14 and not yet an adult but im pretty sure i would still believe in these same basic principals. If your parents said that then they're not being responsible, mature adults. Wen i told my parents i no longer believed in god they made me go to church and are still tryin to force it on me. Just try to tell them u respect their religion, and they should respect yours. Good luck!

I would love my son and be very concerned that he has bought a lie of the devil. I couldn't live with myself if I didn't try to win him to the Lord. Of course I wouldn't badger him all the time, most of the time I would pray for him and fast occasionally for him. I couldn't bear the thought that my son would burn in hell for ever, I Love him too much. I hope you find the lord as your personal savior, don't be upset with your parents for wanting to spend eternity with you.
