No, not necessarily. However, pit bulls can be potentially dangerous, so here's my take on it: ONLY get a puppy from a respectable breeder - many aggressive pitbulls are that way because the 'breeders' just let any two dogs procreate with no regards for their personalities, and the parents' tempermant is usually passed on to the puppies. Second of all, be aware that while a good pit bull will be no more or less aggressive than any other breed, their jaw structure and size makes a pit bull bite MUCH more harmful than a terrier bite or a lab bite - even if the dog is only 'biting' your son to rescue him from a burning house, it'll still likely cause serious injury. On top of that, pit bulls require very VERY dedicated owners who are willing to go the extra mile in training (usually including classes run by professionals) to help curb any potential aggressiveness. And, last but not least, regardless of whether it's a pit bull, golden retriever, or chihuahua, or even a kitten, small children should NEVER, EVER, EVER, IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCES be left alone with animals. Even if you're just taking a nap, or there's an emergency situation, take the time to put the animal in its crate or shut it in a separate room from the child, and put up a baby gate or something if the child is too young to understand that they should leave the animal alone when they're not supervised. When they're old enough to know when to leave an animal alone, and when the animal is OK with being touched, then that isn't an issue any more.

If it had been antifreeze, you'd have seen greenish fluid coming out of his nose, eyes, ears, mouth, etc... not blood or fecal matter.

Unfortunately, unless you have a witness to someone poisoning your dog, you wouldn't have a prayer.

What it sounds like... is that he may have eaten broken glass... that would cut up a dog's intestines... but honestly, if one's going to be poisoned, the other one would be, too. So... glass could have done it. Is there any light bulbs, glass jars, any other containers in your backyard? That would be the only way to explain why the one died and the other was fine. If it was poisoning, then both would be dead... because both would have eaten it.

Not saying that someone didn't toss glass into your yard, though... The puppy, being playful and everything, would have tried to eat anything he could, or thought of the glass as an extension of an intruder. Once in his system, he's got no chance - would have cut him up, and all the blood in his intestines would have given him the bloody runs.

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss... my Angel (german shephard/bassett hound mix) passed away suddenly over five years ago, and I still haven't gotten over it.

Definately have it tested for parvo. Your other dog could be at risk if it was something contagious!

Do not retaliate against your neighbor unless you have 100% proof cause if he didn't do it, your going to look like an ***.

I'm sure the cold didn't help the situation either. The fact that he died alone in the snow is your fault and nobody elses!! At least set up a kennel in the basment or garage where there is a little bit of heat.

Man that sucks! Don't know what would cause that to happen but blood in stool is never a good sign.Had your pup spent night out before, was it cold out?You should definitlly call and talk with a vet.If there was foul play make a police report if possible.Definitlly start talking to your neighbors to find out about dogfood left. And if they saw anyone around. If the cops and neighbors aren't helpful and vet sucpects poision, put up flyers every where you can that there is a dog killer on the lose just so he knows your on to him. Some stupid people don't know anything about the breed and expect the worst.Only because of ignorance on thier part!Shame on them.My heart goes out to you, good luck in your search 4 truth, thats the most inportant thing remember....

I'm terribly sorry for your loss. Gather up the rest of the stuff that was thrown over the fence as evidence, just in case he was poisoned. He may also have been exposed to parvovirus, which would account for the bloody stools. It can kill a young dog in 24 hours. Report this incident to the law, by all means. I'd hate to think there's some crazy MF running around poisoning dogs! And if it turns out to be parvo, get the word out to your neighbors so all their dogs can be brought up to date on vaccinations.
Again, I'm sorry you lost your baby. My heart goes out to you.

Have you had pit bulls in the past, and if you have, has any of your neighbors expressed a dislike of having what they consider dangerous dogs in the neighborhood? Has anyone around you had such dogs and had a problem such as this? There is no point in me trying to guess what killed your pup as there is not enough evidence in your question to make such a diagnosis. People, like it or not, have a fairly valid fear of dogs such as your pup was as they tend to be bred and trained to violence. Not saying you were going to train your dog in such a manner, just that so many have and people, particularly ones with small children are understandably wary of having a pit bull in the area. I wish you good luck with the other pup, and hope you find out what did this to the one that died before anything more happens or if accidental poisoning you find the source before the other pup does.

seriously, call the police. and a vet. ask the vet if there is any disease that could do that. and as for the police, Animal cruelty is illegal, as is trespassing. You found something on your property, so they had to go on your property to put it there. Call them soon, and ask them what you can do. and if you find out who did it, don't ask them if they did it. ask them why they did it, and you'll most likely atleast get a confession out of them. If you havent already thrown the dog food you found away, then dont, and insist that they(police, SPCA, whoever) do an analysis on it and leave it where it is. same with the stools. If you have to, tell them you want to press charges so then that way they actually ahve a case.im so sorry for your loss. Peoples ignorance infuriates me. How dare they? I have a 1 1/2 yr old girl that we got for our 1 1/2 yr old son... they are best friends. peoples inability to accept something they dont understand, is going to be the downfall of this world, and this is just the beginning.

Bloody diarrhea is a primary indicator of parvo; if you live in the south, it is active year long and can kill in a day. Poisoning, intestinal blockage, etc are also good bets. If you suspect poisoning and want any chance at all of bringing charges on someone, have a vet determine what the cause of death was.

I'm so saddened to hear about Ezra. Someone poisoned one of our Springer Spaniels years ago. My brother's next door neighbor poisoned my brother's cats by putting anti-freeze out for them. You might want to contact your vet and the police. There may be some psychotic creep out killing other animals in your neighborhood. It is actually one of the things the the police and mental health professionals look for as a clue to future potential murderers and torturers.

Sorry for your lost, it's probably what he ate, I had a friend who had a dog who died because he ate something, there's a lot stuff in the backyard that can could of cause it, like plants or such, also I read on the news that there were dog food brands that were killing dogs and cats because of a tainted ingredient in the formula, so check the dog food.
