Here's the thing...I want to earn an associates degree in nursing on campus while I take online courses to earn a degree in Information Technolgy. I want to work as a nurse to support myself while I finish earning my IT degree. My thing is I want to experience both but it would be too time consuming to earn one after the other. Any advice? Is this possible or am I dreaming?

People do it all the time. If you were doing both on campus it'd simply be a double major. It could add a little time to your studies and you need to know that nursing is pretty time consuming.

I'm thinking that an RN with a degree in IT would be a pretty hot job candidate in health care IT departments. I'm also thinking that having both would prevent any possibility of unemployment.

Remember though, both of these fields are evolving all of the time - you'll also be taking on twice the future continuing education requirements to stay up to date in both professions.

good luck

You should do something other than nursing.
Don't be a nurse just to support yourself for your IT degree.

If you want to be a nurse, be a nurse. But don't use it as a crutch.

Also, when you get your degree in nursing you still have to pass the state board exam, so it's not really a guarenteed job straight out of school.

Yes, you can do both at the same time. You could then become IT manager in a medical setting.

It is possible but you might have to spend an extra year or two just so you are not to overwhelmed.
