analysis, (I've worked medical so I know what lab tests etc. mean and what they can encompass), what happens to the specimen? The specimen was put immediately into a sterile jar of alcohol so contamination isn't the issue. Thanks for your help. Nancy

Theoretically, the dermatologist will just discard the sample.

However, if there's some substance that might be detectable in the hair sample and it just occurred to the donor that the hair sample might end up being incriminating in one way or another, it might be to the donor's benefit to speak to the dermatologist and make absolutely certain what happened to the sample.

And remember, don't inhale.

The same thing that happens to all specimens after testing happens to specimens left- either untested or not needed. They get incinerated to eliminate any biological hazard. So you can't get it back, but you don't have to worry about anyone else using it either.
