I guess you just say it. However, if you are fully aware the person is an Atheist, if you wish them a merry CHRISTmas, you are looking for a fight. I'm a hardcore Atheist and few people know it. When I'm wished a merry christmas, I simply say thank you. I do NOT say it back.

If someone makes a point to push merry christmas on me and they know I'm an Atheist, I will either say something derogatory to them or just walk away.

1) You guys stole the day from the Pagans, so don't act all high and mighty about it.

2) You walk up to the atheist and say, "Merry Christmas."

3) 'a Atheists' is a grammar mistake worthy of a 3-year old, and you must be at least 4. Drop me a line when you graduate kindergarten.

First of all, one does not 'tell anyone' but rather 'wishes someone' a happy holiday of any kind. On December 22 at 1:08pm in the afternoon you can officially wish your atheist friends a 'Happy Winter Solstice. At that moment the sun will be still and it will be the longest day of the year. Time to celebrate the changing of the seasons. Pure and simple! No nastiness required. Really.

You say Merry Christmas. Duh! Most won't get upset and will say Merry Christmas back. Now a lot of us, say Happy Holiday, especially if we don't know you. That's because we Know that there are other celebrations at this time of year and not just Christmas. You know?

You say "Merry Christmas!"

Some atheists celebrate Christmas. It grew away from it's religious meaning to a cultural tradition.

Just say "Merry Christmas".

I'm an atheist, I would say it right back to you.

The words "Merry Christmas" usually suffice.

Unless you are trying to add an undercurrent of anti-atheist sentiment to those words, in which case you should probably just shut up.

I prefer English. Or you could just say Happy Winter Solstice, since that and Christmas are the same thing, except without the baby king.

Merry Christmas. anyone who doesnt think that Christmas has reached secular status LONG LONG LONG ago is deluding themselves. the only people who have something against christmas are people who's religion has some against christmas.
