My daughter is getting married at an evening wedding in the spring, and her colors are red and purple. I found a long red dress with a touch of purple trim, which she (daughter) thinks is beautiful. Not sure if a mother of the bride should be dressed in red, since her father an I will be walking her down the aisle. Old school I know, I just don't want to take anything from her special day, but would like to wear something that reflects her colors...concern momma

Concerned mom,

It is a lovely gesture & yes you can wear that sexy dress you found. You are not overstepping your bounds & it's also a norm to find mothers in the colour of their daughter's wedding scheme.

It is also not old school to have you walk your daughter down the aisle. It is actually very sentimental.. a sign that you are giving away your daughter to her new role of independence & as a new wife to someone you like.

Carry tissues & smile a lot. It will be an awesome day.

Yes, your not going to take anything from her, if the bride is wearing red then you'll compliment her dress and lets face it your older and she'll have a more expensive prettier dress and have her hair, make up etc professionally done anyways...did you think everyone would be looking at YOU as you went down the aisle with her, is HER dress really that bad? lol

If you like. The old adage used to be 'don't wear black to a wedding or red to a funeral' but I have seen both in recent years. In fact, I wore black velvet to my own cousin's wedding and several others were in black as well. Your dress sounds perfect. However, you might want to know that red and purple are the colors of the 'Red Hat Ladies", so if you are not into that particular group, you might get some jibes and not know why.

Because those are the wedding colors and the wedding is an evening wedding, I think that it would be perfect! Since the dress has purple trim, it's even better!

No one will object, especially since your daughter love it too!

I've been in the Wedding industry going on 10 years and have personally overseen nearly 300 weddings- I think it's a great idea- so long as the bridesmaids are wearing similar colors- it will fit in well in all the pictures!!

Great Choice!!

Red sounds amazing!!! Wear It!!

You are the mother of the bride and you deserve to look radiant too. As long as your daughter is OK with it, go for it.

Red is a beautiful color for the evenings. Have fun and look fabolous that night.

If your daughter is okay with you wearing it and doesn't feel that you would be taking anything from her special day, then where it. If she does, then find something in a neutral color like black or silver. it is okay now for moms of the brides (and grooms) to coordinate their outfits with the wedding colors.

The mother of the bride and any other women are tradtionally not meant to wear white. If your daughter' s dress is red and purple, it makes sense that this rule applies here.

There are only two things to consider here:
1. What you like and feel good in.
2. What your daughter likes and agrees with.

If you love the dress and feel comfortable and beautiful in it, and your daughter agrees, wear it and love it.

Congratulations on being a happy MOB!

I wore red to my daughter's wedding and her dad wore a matching red tie. Everyone told us we looked great. No color dress will take away from any bride. Have fun!
