I'm 21 and i moved back home over the summer to continue college here and save money. I pay $250/month. I have no clue what to do, my parents still treat me like a child. Everyday i come home from work or school and there's a note "clean your room" waiting for me; they should not be snooping through my things. I don't mind them wanting me to call them when i go out or go to school, but calling me every 20mins is just rediculous. I came home to save money and focus on school; i did not come home and pay rent to be treated like a child. My brother messed up alot when i was his age and i feel like i;m getting the reprecussions. I know they love and care about me and dont want me to make the same mistakes he did but they're suffocating me to the point where im gonna just move out. I've talked to them so many times but it just ends in an arguement. How do i get them to listen and compromise with me. or should i just move out?

Well first of all it is their house and if it was an apartment you would still need to keep it clean, so I would let them know that from time to time you may be lazy on the cleaning but could you please not add notes to my room. Let them know that sometimes your studies are so intense that your so worn out at the end of the day and you don't mean to be a disorganized student but you have those days sometimes. Ask them if they would prefer you move out, put it in their court, see what they say, ask for a comprimise. I will get my room in order 3 times a month, in turn you don't leave little notes, and allow you time between stressful exams and reports to catch up to reality. They should understand how weekends are when your a college student. If not they have lost their memory! It's a time to relax and have fun and clean on Sunday maybe, in the evening. Think up something all of you agree on.

Try being married and living with a parent. That's an interesting adventure.
