I recently (like 3 days ago) got a new laptop with Windows Vista. It's been just a few days but I'm already sick of it. What should I consider before I give up on it?

The laptop is already giving me problems on startup. AND it's compatibility issues are driving me up the wall. Will this get better or worse with time?

Vista users help??

I would install XP on the laptop but I've researched it and learned that the drivers will no longer work because of incapability.

(I'm running a toshiba satellite A215 for those curious)

More details-

Yesterday it WOULD NOT boot and it did startup repair (which seemed to fix the problem... but I'm not sure if it was a one time thing or it will do it again)

And I'm having compatibility problems with games and programs (games such as The Sims Complete Collection and Diablo 2 ---> both of which can run on Vista with some tweaking (YES I'M AWARE that the BOX does not have VISTA as compatible)

I have been using Vista now for almost 5 months. In the beginning, I had similar thoughts as you. Went thru two new laptops in something like a week and, I am now with the third one of the same brand and model. Does it work better, ya betcha it does`! Would I recommend Vista? 5 months ago, NO..Today, yes. I love it~! The only thing I like better is my XP/Linux on the desktop puter.
Several things to consider.
Do install all the updates from MS for Vista.
Do install only those programs that are Vista compatibable~!
I know you use the backward compatibility feature but, I chose not to So far, everything flies~! I am on hi speed broadband/wireless and, enjoying the heck out of it`! Downloads are PIECE OF CAKE. Is Vista different? Yes, it is but, there's new programs coming out all the time that makes it so much more fun. Downloaded Processe Explorer to look deeper into the working of the system. Belarc Advisor newest version for Vista is out. I enjoy Auslogic's program for Defrag and Boost Performances of registry, etc. I installed NOD32 Smart Security Suite .The list goes on and on..Everything works like clockwork` No issues with shutdown/start up time.
I'd say, give it some more time~ 3 days is hardly enough time.
And, no..my puter isn't for sell..lmao
Toshiba P205-S6267
Good Luck~!

Vista is not just a revamped improvement over Windows XP. Vista actually breaks new ground in operating systems and IS the next step. We can no longer continue to operate in the environment that Windows XP offers (no matter how familiar). There must be a more secure means for transmitting information via the web and a more robust operating system capable of coping with the incredible improvements that are, and have already been made in computing images and graphics. Vista is an attempt to accomplish this. Yes, Vista has it's faults, but for a completely new operating system like this to become as comfortable and reliable as the XP operating system has been, is going to take some time. If you can, be patient, I say stick with it. Imagine how proficient you will be when Vista is perfected. And make no mistake about it, Vista is here to stay. The gaming community will see to that. I intend to get and install Vista, just to learn it. But I will also keep a Windows XP computer on hand when I lose my patients:)

Well I'm not a Vista fan either. I tried it on my PC and reverted to XP.

However, with that said, you should know that Microsoft is coming out with Service Pack 1 (SP1) in the first quarter of 2008. It is supposed to fix 1000+ issues with performance, security, and compatibility.

So you may want to hang in there for awhile.

If you decide to revert your laptop to XP you need to know that XP is going to be supported by Microsoft until 2014. So it will definitely be around for awhile to come.

If you need to purchase XP I'd shop online for an OEM copy of XP that includes Service Pack 2.

Hope this helps.

As far as I know everyone that can is switching back to XP, the only thing that may end up stopping you is two things, one, if you do switch back to XP you may lose to warranty of the computer and two, your computer may not have the drivers available that will work with XP, as they are two very different operating systems. These would be the two main things you need to check out before even considering uninstalling vista and getting XP on there.

I knew some moron might advise a MAC. Did you study his submit? He in basic terms build an AMD Phenom gadget, he can no longer use MAC. in case you on no account used Linux in the previous, Ubuntu is extremely consumer-friendly and prevalent to ex-homestead windows purchasers in that regard, yet once you're instilled specially classes or (god forbid) video games, you will no longer locate the swap fairly uncomplicated to shield. You if truth be told might desire to ignore approximately making use of the classes you're used to altogether. whether some utility, like Limewire professional, is available on Linux besides, maximum homestead windows utility nonetheless isn't. once you're a open-minded and a techy-kinda-guy then you definately might desire to be waiting to %. up on it extremely easily. I messed around with it some three hundred and sixty 5 days in the past, the Feisty version, and that i in my opinion enjoyed it yet stopped making use of it as a results of fact I constantly had a might desire to apply the previous classes I constantly did. no longer each and every application for homestead windows has a Linux equivalent. in case you're interior the temper for an iffy-adventure, swap to Ubuntu, in case you in basic terms desire to apply your laptop, downgrade to XP SP3. it fairly is via suggestion.
