it was recently made legal again by the Alcohol Bureau of the US. It is limited to certain brands that contain smaller amounts of the chemical from the wormwood that caused it to be banned in the first place. I believe there are three or four brands being sold now. St. George Spirits from Alamada, California (near SF) is releasing an Absinthe Vert on Dec. 21. Lucid from France, Kubler from Switzerland and Absinto Camargo from Brazil also sell the stuff to the US.

Bevmo sells the lucid and kubler brands.

Recent changes in U.S. law regarding the allowable concentration of thujone have allowed some absinthes to be legal for sale in the United States. Absinthe of all sorts has always legal to use and consume (provided it is legal for the person to own and consume alcohol), just illegal to buy, sell, or make. (In theory this meant that the only legal way to obtain abstinthe was to have inherited a bottle which was brought into the U.S. before the ban.) There is now at least one absinthe, Lucid, which is produced and marketed in the United States. It's hard to obtain outside of New York and the surrounding states as of yet, however.

Unless you're a real connoisseur, which I doubt as you don't seem to know how to spell the word "absinthe," there's probably not much point in spending a bunch of money on a bottle of real absinthe when Pernod and several other pastises are available for much less in most American markets. Absinthe does not cause hallucinations, extreme lucidity, or any other psychological or physical effects any different from other liquors with the same alcohol content. The only good reason to keep any on hand is if you also keep peychaud's and high-end rye whiskey and make sazeracs.
