In the Bible, Deuteronomy 22:5 basically says that women aren't to wear that which pertains to men and men aren't to wear women's garments. I believe that the police uniform, guns, handcuffs, and night stick pertain to men. I am asking this question to find out what others think.

I think it all depends on how you look at it. Considering a pair of pants a shirt is womans wear as well as mens, it really is not. I know quite a few woman officers who are as feminine as can be when not on duty. The uniform is simply compatible and sensible for what they do, as well as the handcuffs and night stick.

As for woman being police officers besides that. My sister can take down a full grown man at the age of 12 due to self-defense class, and look at Joan of Arc, one of the most well known and respected Saints. She fought and defended good, which is a police officer's job.

You don't have to agree with it if you believe its wrong. Its your opinion, based on your interpretation of a Bible verse.

This is a bit of a sticky subject, I, being a Christian, hold the Bible in the highest of esteem. An officer's uniform became mostly accustomed to a male as a Barbie doll(not Ken) became associated with young girls. Women officer's are a wonderful thing but changing their uniforms would make them different and not of the whole(law enforcement) But since new uniforms would be time consuming and costly I don't think the Police would change them.

The Old Testament was then, the New Testament was Jesus coming to bring love, and acceptance to all people. Remember the woman at the well?? If you follow the Old Testament you have to follow ALL of it. So you have to go to Leviticus and get the rules on what to eat and what not to eat, and so on.
It is so easy to judge people, but Jesus was above that. He doesn't care what job people have, or the clothes they wear, unless it is indecent (strippers, etc) And even then, He would not judge. He would set the example.
How do guns, handcuffs and all that you mention pertain only to men? A lot of criminals have been caught by female police officers, and now have a chance to accept Jesus and be better citizens.
We could also say that women should not be skiers, because you have to wear ski pants and carry ski poles, etc. Or pick another example. Can you see how unBiblical this is?
I remember when I was very young, and a strong Christian...but not an example of a loving one. I judged everyone by my own biases and God must have been laughing, because He eventually got through to me about love, acceptance, forgiveness, judgments, and so on. I'm still not perfect, of course, but oh, my, what a legalistic christian I was back then.
I honor your thoughts, but as I say, if you take one scripture from the OT, you must use them all. It is too easy to use one scripture to say what WE want to say, rather than the verse in its entirety, which may have a totally different meaning. And who is perfect enough to say...this is what the Bible meant? God says we see through a veil now, and later we will see clearly. Pray about this. God is so faithful and will speak through your heart, spirit and mind, plus through others.
By the way, what is wrong with cross dressing in this situation. Would you rather they wear heels and dresses? Come on, now. This is not cross dressing. CD is about dressing like a woman when you are a man, and vice versa. Not when you go to a job. I was required on one job to wear pants, and on another to wear a dress. I'm NOT a cross dresser. I know my sexual identity, which is what CD is about.
Have a great day, and keep praying.

O.K. I completely understand wanting to learn and put into action the word of God, but lets be honest. In Bible times everyone pretty much wears the same thing. Now don't get me wrong I think cross-dressing is odd and I don't understand it, but who am I, or you, to judge. Also, the uniform, guns, handcuffs, and night stick-those things don't necessarily pertain to men they pertain to an occupation. It just happens to be an occupation that consist mostly of men.

Ok in that time, men and women both wore skirts, just as today men and women wear pants.

Guns and a nightstick are really mens things? Thats really an insult to men in a manner. All men are violent, is that what you are

The world seems to view women as inherently deficient but the fact is that women can do EVERYTHING that man can. Its they that cant do what we can...they cant give life. The contribute too life for sure, but they cant bring life into this world.

We live in a world now where there is less sexism than there used to be. That is a right women fought hard for. Just look at the question. How do you feel about women being police OFFICERS, not police MEN.

I think it should be like in the military - no women on the front lines. In other words, there's plenty to do back at HQ (including searching female prisoners). Women who are going to wear the uniform, Christian or not, don't have a conviction about the dress question. And the ones who are cops are pretty competent, in my opinion.

What's wrong with women wearing pants? Why must we wear clothing that makes it easier for you men to rape and molest us, not to mention being very impractical... Is this yet another attempt to keep women from being equal to men? You aren't okay with a woman in a uniform, but it's okay if she's the local stripper... dude, grow up and get with the times.

I honestly think you're taking the infamous Deuteronomy 22:5 verse a little too far. Remember that clothing is man made and not God made. If a woman can hack being a cop, then it makes no difference to me.

I think its great !! Have you seen some of the arms on some of them ? They're intimidating lol. I dont think you could say they were cross-dressing.
Cross-dressing is done by someone who enjoys wearing the opposite sex's clothes. And like to do it often, probably not on their job.
Female cops are doing it as part of their job, they dont't go home + cross-dress, well most of them dont.
Jesus forgave Mary Magdalin, and she was a prostitute. She wasn't cross-dressing, but an actual prostitute who reformed her ways + became one of Jesus's most loyal followers.

I couldnl't judge people just because of their preference in dress, I would judge a demon or evil being. Otherwise anything else would be a waste of my time. I need time to feel grateful for all that I have. : )
