Hi (great question)

No I would not be willing to die for what I believe no matter how strong my view because you cannot effect change by being dead. You may regret that you cannot immediately create the change you feel is necessary but there is always a chance that you may create the infrastructure to do so while you still live. That is not being a coward that is common sense and of course compromise must never be ruled out.

Matt 5 & 6, ''Thou shalt love thy Neighbour as thy self'' would you kill your neighbour if he/she was preventing you carrying out what you believe to be true?

The only thing I would die for are the people I love. I would sell my soul for them too if I had to so I guess I'm willing to compromise on my beliefs.

No, I'm not willing to die for it because I can't think of any reason I would need to. If a group of guys were holding guns to my head and telling me to deny my religion or die, I would deny my religion. Not because I'm a pansy or afraid of death, but because it doesn't matter what those people thought, and denying it doesn't make anything change. Would I die to protect another person or group of people. Anytime. Would I die before being forced to harm other people? Sure. But not just for, or in the name of a religion. BTW I have no religion per se, just a personal spiritual path. But it's all the same. Religion is for man, not man for religion.

I think that this question is a very complex one. Yes, my immediate reaction is: I would die for Christ. But wait -- the disciples all said that before the crucifixion (with the exception of Judas) and they all fled. Later on they were all except John (who was exiled) martyred for their faith. It seems that in moments of weakness we might compromise unless we receive strength and grace from God.

There is the other aspect of your question -- the matter of degree. I believe, for example, in the virgin birth as recorded in St Matthew's Gospel. If faced with the prospect of dying for this belief, would I in fact do so? Or would I say that the prophecy in Isaiah could, according to some interpretations, be referring to a young woman just as well as to a virgin? That would be a compromise.

I find myself in the position of the eleven apostles. As far as I can tell, I would die for Christ. How well do I know myself?

No and no. I have nothing to gain in doing either.
What I believe to be true is irrelevant. It only matters if it is indeed true. There must be evidence.

However, in a forced situation, if failing to compromise meant death, my unwillingness to compromise would mean I would rather die, because I know that would be the outcome.

I've faced prison, dishonorable discharge, loss of rank and pay because I wouldn't falsely name fellow servicemen and women in a gay/lesbian witchhunt (before Don't Ask/Don't Tell). I like to think that I would take that final step and be willing to die for what is right or true. I think I'm stronger and even more set in what is honorable.

People will always die for what they believe to be true.

Compromise appears when we are asked to die for something we discover we may have thought we believe, but then discover we don't.

So yes - I am willing to die for my beliefs.

personally I guess I'm willing to die for what I believe in,

this includes beliefs, if it came down to death or changing what I beleive in I would fight to prove I was right.

and in life ,actively working for a fire department I go in and risk getting killed in a fire because I believe if I can save another life it was worth the risk.
