My dad was in the hospital for over a month when I was 16. (nearly died, they couldn't get him off the respirator.) Frankly, drinking never crossed my mind. I was to busy taking care of my two younger brother and attending college to even think about drinking. You need your wits about you right now, now is not the time to start getting wasted/buzzed/just a little bit drunk.
I didn't start drinking until I was 23. As I've learned over the years, don't drink when you are depressed/sad. Alcohol is a depressant and will probably make matters worse for you right now. And as was mentioned, you are to young to handle the effects of alcohol on your growing mind right now. Talk to your mom about your dad, the answer isn't at the bottom of a bottle. Good luck with your dad, I've been there before.

No, I know its sounds cliche but if your friends told you to jump off a bridge into a freezing river would you? Drinking is not a game, you are so young, to be blunt it can kill you, if you drink too much. If you are stressed out about dad being in the hospital, just relax and deal with it. Life is full of moments of stress and alcohol may mask it for an hour or two, but when you sober up....problems are still there..
Hope your dad is going to get well very soon :)

Listen, I'm not going to tell you not to drink. I'm not going to tell you to drink. It is your decision and yours alone. People in this country are too uptight about what others should or shouldn't be doing and need to take a little time and look at their own life. If we spent time educating young people about alcohol rather than making taboo, there would be a lot less problems.
That being said... I don't recommend turning to alcohol in times of crisis. It may seem like a good idea, but it is easy to turn alcohol into a crutch.

first of all i wouldnt recommend drinking at your age. using alcohol because of hard times causes nothing but more pain and suffering. in all honesty drinking at an older age can be fun if you know what youre doing, but it doesnt solve any problems for you, ive tried it before like that and got addicted to it. I still drink a lot but its just to have fun and of course im more responsible at it now. by the way im 25 years old.

Hospital bills and a hefty fine for underage drinking . . . sounds like a plan. No. It's not a good reason to drink.

Never use alcohol or any other abusable drug as a crutch to cope with an emotional stressor. It can only lead to trouble.
Additionally, to be honest, there are darned good biological and neurological reasons for you to stay sober until you're substantially older.
