The Saudi woman who was raped received a pardon from the King of Saudi Arabia which means she won't receive any lashes or prison time. Does the pardon protect her from any other retribution from her family? She has still brought dishonor to her family but is that honor restored by virtue of the King's pardon?

Well I will tell you what is going on ,

As King Abdullah is the leader of us ( saudis ) he have the right to pardon her. Her family will not do any thing wrong with her coz the don't have any thing aginest her.

her family and her husband is in her side . But as a general roll , yah he protect her even from her family if they aren't in her side coz he is the leader .

I think this has to do with the traditions in her area rather than the Islamic law.

There is part of the story that seems not to have appeared in the Western media. The Saudis claim that she was given the sentence of 200 lashes not because she was raped, but because she was at the time of the crime alone with an ex-boyfriend. The rapists attacked them in the car of the boyfriend and that's why she did not report the crime until someone from her family did. In the Saudi law a man is not supposed to be alone with a woman that is not his direct family. My understanding is that the judge ordered her and her ex-boyfriend to be punished for this reason, not because she was raped. If there were a proof that she actually had committed adultery with her boyfriend, then the punishment might have been death.

Now the king's pardon came to end the international scandal, which has upset some Saudi people, but in general, it is known that the Saudis will respect the decision of the king, because of their tribal traditions. The king in this case is like a big tribe leader, a father shape for the people, and usually when he intervenes in big internal conflicts among the tribes, they would honor his word out of respect. Most probably nothing worse will happen to the woman, more than some negative attitude from some friends or family, again because of the accusation of her presence with her ex where they shouldn't be.

All the above has nothing to do with Islamic law. It's just Arabian tribal traditions.

Hope this make things clear.

salaam/peace.

The pardon granted to her by the king is only limited to forgiveness by the highest person of the land, it does not mean that the family forgive her also. A pardon cannot restore dishonor from any kind of shameful acts, committed voluntarily or not.

I'm not sure, I dont think her family has come out and said that she has dishonoured the family... I mean she was raped and they cant be THAT cold.

As an Arab and a Muslim i just think everything thats going on over there is so screwed up, and extremely embarrassing for Muslims who dont believe in the Saudi's system of government... it has nothing to do with Sharia'a law... !!

Peace and Love!!

merry christmas and Eid Mubarak!

The honor would not be restored because of the kings pardon. In the eyes of the family and other people, she has been soiled, and it is her fault.

From the news stories, it sounds like her husband is on her side, so from that, I don't think she'll face any retribution from any other family members.
