Becoming a registered nurse requires that you get an associates of applied science degree from a two year university, and then pass a board exam. You can also become a liscenced nurse by taking a 1 year program, and passing a board exam. A BSN is a nurse with a bachelors degree. It differs from state to state, but these are the most widely used.
RN (registered nurse) TWO year A.A.S.

There are 2 levels of nurses the LPN or LVN which is the vocational or practical nurse, they attend normally a certification program, and have to take a test and be licensed by the state, after finishing the program, LPN/LVNs perform the more technical level of nursing and a significant amount of the "hands-on" patient care.
The Registered Nurse is the level most people think of when they say nurse.
There are 3 education programs in the US for RNs.
Associate Degree - normally received from a community, technical or junior college, this program is 2 years in length following completion of the prerequisite courses (in most schools) so the overall coursework is three years.
Diploma - received from a hospital-based school, provides no college degree (associate or bachelor). There are usually prerequisite courses required for admission, these can be obtained at a local communit college. The Diploma programs traditionally take 3 years. Some of these programs charge no tuition, but have an obligated work period after graduation.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) - this degree is designed to take 4 years at a college or university (some students take more than 4 years). Provides more courses which allow for some job opportunities not available to graduates from the other 2 RN programs.
Gradutes of all three of these programs may take the NCLEX-RN board examination, if they pass, and they meet the requirements for registration by the state, they are given the title as a Registered Nurse.

NO. Yes you can become a RN 4 years after you graduate from high school by attending a university that offers BSN degrees-Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Some people become LPN's then go to a program to become a RN if that is what you are referring to. Go on to college to become a RN at first, you have way more opportunities this way. Good Luck!

you can choose nursing as a study at school but you have to pass a nursing liscensure exam in order to get a license. You can also go to a Practical or Vocational nursing class that lasts about a year and become an LPN(licensed practical nurse) LVN (licensed vocational nurse) also in the state i live in you can challenge the practical nurse exam after you complete your 2nd semester of clinicals (the working/learning in the hospital while your in school)

uhm, you can't be a nurse unless you are a registered nurse. If u think u r a nurse, but are not registered, you are not a real nurse, sorry, But many colleges offer an associates degree program that prepares you for the NCLEX. Some states allow high schools to offer nursing programs. Research your program thoroughly. There are many titles, like LPN (licensed practical nurse) and NA (nurse assistant), but they are not fully nurses. If you have more questions, message me. I'm in school right now to become a nurse and I love telling people about it!

RN is the title you obtain after you complete an accredited nursing program. You can either complete a two-year (A.A degree) or four-year (B.S degree) nursing program.
