The Government does not have that power and neither should it. Such a law would serve absolutely no effective purpose in stopping crime. You only need one gun to commit a crime, and even if you wanted more you could certainly get them by illegal means. Laws that forbid the purchase and carrying of arms only affect those who actually obey the law. If there was a new gun law making private firearm owenership illegal, do you think the criminals would stop getting guns? Of course not, they are already intent upon breaking the law, another law won't cause them to change their course. Such laws only unarm the law abiding citizens, making them easier targets for those with no regard for the law.

“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”
- Thomas Jefferson

No. Why should they?

There's only one reason why they would want to limit the number of guns available to law-abiding citizens, and that's so they're safe to break laws and violate the rights of the people they've sworn to protect.

There are over 30 million firearms in this country, and the fact that most of them aren't making headlines is evidence that most gun owners don't need to have them taken away for their own safety.

And if someone needs fifty guns for something illegal, and they can't get them legally, what's to stop them from walking down the street and getting an illegal firearm?

Absolutley NOT on the total number you can own. The 1 handgun per month does not bother me as much, most people can't spend that much in a month anyways. If anything it would give you more time to make an informed decision. But overall, I think it is a ridiculous rule.

No. If someone's eligible to own firearms who's business is it how many they own. Who cares if they decide to buy more than one at a time.

Steven Spielberg owns over 20 thousand firearms including a fully functional WWI era Maxim gun.

with the economy like it is i would feel okey about buying one gun a month. i would not like it if they made a law saying you had to. what if you have a child that liked to own a gun to hunt with? then your other child would want one too? there you would have a problem.
