I like Gene's answer, but actually you can pretty much treat your water any way you want for both taste and purity. There is a tremendous variety of filtration products out in the market that are consumer friendly. A couple suggestions...
Aquaverve.com makes bottleless water coolers that include filtration systems. Their filtration removes lead, pcb's, chlorine etc. - particularly good for municipal water supplies. More extensive filtration is available from zerotechnology.com. Its a lot more expensive to operate, but you can literally pour chlorine thru the filters and drink the output! Of course the filters won't last long doing that!

Get a water filter for your sink, or they have jugs with the filtration systems in them for your refrigerator Brita makes a good and reasonably priced one.
