It is letter C. The first three were Grand National Championships and the latter four were Winston Cup Championships (all NASCAR's top series)

Umm, NO, the last FOUR were Winston, Three GN. The 64, 67 and 71 championships were under the Grand National series name. In 1972 Winston became the sponsor and the 72, 74, 75 and 79 Championships came then.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NEXTEL_Cup has a history of name changes.

Oh, and here is a quote
"in 1972, the RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company and its Winston brand teamed with NASCAR to build the NASCAR Winston Cup Series into what it is today. 1972 marks the first season in what we refer to as the "Modern Era of NASCAR."

Better even: 1971 in NASCAR:
"Two-time champion Richard Petty added to his ever-growing trophy case by winning the 1971 NASCAR Grand National championship. In typical Petty fashion, the King won 21 races in 46 starts en route to his third title." http://www.nascar.com/2002/kyn/history/dbd/02/06/1971/index.html
