If not, how do religious liberals provide intellectual shelter for fundamentalists?

I saw Fred Phelps protesting across the street from St. David's Episcopal church in the early 80s because (gasp) the priest and the congregation welcomed everyone and willingly held funerals for aids victims, so I rather doubt that ole Fred is going to contact Rowan Williams. We certainly don't approve of him, but he just doesn't care. He thinks he is the last word.

I think that considering Fred Phelps thinks the Archbishop of Canterbury is damned with the rest of us he would not bother asking for anyone's approval.........

fred doesn't even solicit approval from his own conscious. the religious liberal provide intellectual shelter for these whack jobs by not speaking out strongly enough against them. for those who aren't aware, this monster started his career by taking his 'god hates fags' rhetoric to the funerals of gay men who had died of aids in the kansas city area. there was little or no press coverage of his antics until he started targeting soldiers.

sorry dude, i appreciate your effort, but his one isn't a laughing matter for me. [ok, i did chuckle at the question.]

You have not lived, until you have seen the Phelps zombies with their picket signs, on Topeka's main boulevard. Please come to Kansas, and bring plenty of film.
