Movement of heat from one place (where the temperature is hotter) to another place (where the temp. is colder), through solid objects.

This is in contrast to the other 2 methods that heat moves: convection and radiation. Convection is similar to conduction, in that the heat moves through matter, only in convection, the matter isn't solid, it's gas.

Heat conduction or thermal conduction is the spontaneous transfer of thermal energy through matter, from a region of higher temperature to a region of lower temperature, and hence acts to even out temperature differences.
