Tequila's excellent post about this deserves to be reinforced. What do all of Israel's critics say about how Israel is repairing a ramp by the AlAqsa Mosque, to make it safer for everyone who visits?

This great link - again all credit to Tequila - is expressing the viewpoint of a Muslim who rightly says that the Islamic community condemned Israel for trying to destroy the Mosque when in fact, it was being repaired!

Now let's compare this to what Jordan did when it controlled Jerusalem; it turned the holiest Jewish sites into horse stables.

MELISSA - I only block those people espousing the same sentiments as neo Nazis, i.e. those who have openly stated in this forum: 'all the world's problems are caused by Israel/zionists/Jews'.

What the author of the article says can be true for any country. In all countries there is a percentage of the population willing to believe anything they are fed. I would opine that in the closed Arab populations it is even worse. They imbibe with their mother's mild that Jews are out to kill them and wipe out their religion and holy places. What else can they believe, they don't have the gumption to entertain any other point of view, why should they? "Is this not what our imam's or whatever have been telling us for centuries?" Even if someone were to tune in an honest radio station he would undoubtedly be condemned or worse by his/her neighbors or local chapter of whatever 'GROUP' covers that area. I can't say the people are too uneducated to know better, there are examples here that some people are the same. Anyway that's my two cents, whether it makes sense or not. In my semi literate opinion none of it is ever going to make a difference. The followers of Islam absolutely refuse to believe anything but the bad about the Jews and Israel. Okay go ahead and thumb me down. I have nothing to say but 'I tried'.

In truth, I don't think the repaired ramp is used by Arab visitors to the Mosques. Anyone who has seen the area knows that this ramp leads basically from the Kotel Plaza up to the Temple Mount, not exactly the primary entrance point for a Muslim worshipper. However, Israel is repairing a damaged piece of architecture, and doing so openly without any evil intent lurking behind the scenes.
The Arab/Muslim reaction is interesting and is reminiscent of the reaction to the Kotel Tunnel excavations. Perhaps the Arab world finds it so easy to believe that Israel strives to debase Muslim holy sites because (as you mentioned) that is very much what they themselves did to Jewish holy sites, including Joseph's Tomb this decade! After all, one's fears are limited only by one's imagination.

Whatever, the Jews are like, evil. I can't be bothered by stupid facts! They stole my olive tree I swear... are you listening to me, global media?? Who cares if the Jews pretend to respect Muslim sites, and who cares if the facts support this argument? THEY'RE ALL WARMONGERING FASCISTS who stole palestinian land-- and our country has been here, living as a separate nation for like, ever!

(My sarcasm is thinly veiled, but I have learned never to overestimate the intelligence of the YahooAnswers anti-Semitism bunch. So, in case you failed to notice, you can now pretend that you discerned my sarcasm from the beginning.)

Not just that, the Jordanians went to the Mount Of Olives Jewish Cemetery in Jerusalem and uprooted over 65,000 Jewish graves. They built a road that cut through a vast portion of a section of Jewish graves from c.2,000 years ago, then used the headstones for army latrines!

The Israelis are just making a ramp here, but I wish with all my essence and soul that some storm, earthquake, bomb, anything, finishes that "House of Usurpation" on the Temple Mount.

None of them are going to bother responding to this.

That video demonstrated exactly what I was talking about, basically that the construction in no way can damage the Mosque and that its main purpose is to build a proper bridge without damaging what lies beneath it.

i dont get the whole palestinian thing v israel thing and i'm irish! from the north. the 2 cultures land and religion are too-intertwinned by history. most catholics in the north regard the protestants as fellow irish men. most protestants in the north see the catholics as a foreign enemy even though we were there 2000 years plus before the plantation. not as catholic but as born and bred true irish. the protestants have the same if they want it but most refuse. sorry i seeen too much shi't happen to my own people on behalf of the aggressor. rammalha anyone? thats like the brits destroying the whole of turf lodge to catch one provie. even they arent that stupid.

it's a travesty that thru-out the middle east, gestures of good will are virtually ignored because they don't draw the ratings points the networks' advertizers crave. thanks for bringing this to our attention.
