I think it is total and complete bull that the government to say who you can and can NOT marry. You don't walk up to your partner and say "LOVE ME" you can't help who you love. Its not a choice to be gay its the way that it is. The world is changing and this is a change that has happened and will continue to happen and who are we to say who someone will be happy with. If you are not happy with a man or a women and you look to the same sex we can't look down on you for that. People of power think because they have power think they have the right to control that aspect of people.

No I do not think the Gov should Dictate to a Church, but what you are describing is a Church choice not a dictate..
And also even if the Gov says no same sex marriage, why aren't the people affected by this just making out a different kind of legal contract to cover each other in case of death or sharing money.... A religious ceremony is not LEGAL until the government papers are filled out so every one technically is still getting married at the courthouse......

I don't think it's right for the government to dictate anything to the church and they don't. That's why we have separation of church and state. In this situation, I suspect so that the church doesn't have to tell anyone no, they have decided not to perform any weddings at all. That is their choice and is not dictated by the government.

The article says that these churches chose not to perform marriage ceremonies - the government didn't dictate them anything. It wouldn't be proper for the government to dictate a church, and it didn't. It's cool that these churches are taking a stand, however unpopular this move may be.

The government is not dictating anything to these churches. This is simply their way of protesting the inequality of marriage laws in their state. They were never told they couldn't "Bless" a same sex marriage. The reason it is not legal is because there is no marriage license for the clergy to sign off on. The Marriage license itself is a totally civil contract. (hence the straight couples having to get the civil aspect done at town hall)
Drawing upon the separation of church and state is a bad banner to be holding for Gay Marriage.
Human rights, and anti discrimination laws that are based in race, religion, or sexual preference are better tools in this war.
But that's just my opinion. I wish them luck anyway.

Are we talking USA here? In this country, there is certainly no law forbidding any church from blessing a same sex union and considering the recipients of that blessing to be married in the Eyes of God and within the laws of that church. Whether or not the union is LEGALLY recognized by local, state, or federal governments does not in any way affect any church's ability to perform marriage ceremonies. I don't see how this is government dictating to the church. That church is perfectly free to bless save sex unions or not, depending on its own beliefs. It's disingenuous BS for any church to pretend that "the government made them" either bless or withhold blessing in the matter of same sex couples.

Hi. I am NOT against those that are gay and lesbian marrying....but I don't understand your question. There is NOTHING in that article about the government. It is simply about a church. Personally, I feel these churches are discriminating against those straight couples wanting to be married there. Now those straight couples have to leave their own congregation and go to a different church to be married.
There is separation of church and state in this country. At least there is supposed to be. A church can make it's own rules....as this one seems to have done.

Nope, thats why there is the terminology "separation of church and state" what bothers me more is that the far right and even moderate right seem to not believe in this doctrine any longer. Come on 2009.
