In Canada, the first 4 years of University are paid for all aboriginals ("status" Indians and Eskimos) with a treaty card. This only applies to band members, so one parent has to be a band member, but below 1/4 you're no longer elgible.

In the USA, there are a lot of scholarships for disadvantaged minorities. Plus, the federally supported institutions have to fill out forms showing how they meet the quotas for various minorities; there are penalties if they can't make their quotas. As a result, the most under-represented minorities will get all sorts of inducements to come to certain colleges. Indian applicants, being very rare, are especially chased...

Obviously, the races that don't have a problem getting into university - white, oriental, east Indian - are SOL for this special treatment.

You would need to check with the specific office that distributes that particular scholarship in order to see if it is true. You can get a scholarship from just about any place. There are boat loads of money that go unawarded every year for lack of applicants. If you need a scholarship, or two or three, start your research early and close to home. It is amazing the amount of money companies give away for education.

Many schools do offer scholarships for people who are part Native American. Typically, the cut off is 1/8 or 1/4. However, simply saying that you're part Native American is not sufficient to getting a scholarship. You have to be able to attest to that ancestry and provide documentation of it.

Yes, here you can (if you live on the Reservation, or can prove you're at least 1/8 Indian). I know the Community College offers it, not sure if any other state colleges do.

You can get a scholarship for being part anything. Except white.

I'm not kidding. I searched scholarships exhaustively. Everything but Caucasian.
