how about " I've gained a great deal of knowledge." or
" I've been introduced to a great many new ideas."

I am glad your teacher is asking you to replace the word "things."

So, to answer your question, what type of "things" did you learn?

concepts?
ideas?
customs?
habits?
rituals?

The only person who knows the correct answer is you. Write more than one sentence, if needed, but explain to the reader what you learned.

what's the context, like your whole sentence?
"The information given to me this year, helped me learn more on various subjects than I ever have before."
"I was informed and given many facts that helped advance my ideas"
something of that sort, I'll help more if you proved more on what you are writing about.
