Well I'm only 14 but I love stuff like this. I think obesity is a growing problem all over the world. It is very unhealthy and can cause many physical problems such as back pain, immobilization, and heart disease. It could also cause cases of depression in the social side of things. Personally, I don't look at any of obesity in a way to criticize the person(s); I think that anyone, not just obese but also just overweight, needs to get support from family and friends and maybe even a doctor to help shed some of the extra weight by eating right and staying active. This way, they can live their life to it's full potential. Haha this is just some thoughts but hopefully I could help a little :)

Asking for opinions always means that you are going to get a spectrum of ideas and thoughts. In that spirit, here is one perspective from an obese man at 6'3" and 620 pounds who was an obese child, a normal sized adult during my mid 20s and 30s and who chose to be obese again.

Those of us who are obese, assuming there is not a medical condition causing our obesity, know why we are obese. It is a rather simple equation - we have eaten more calories than we have burned with activity. We also know the consequences of being obese. We certainly know what it would take for us to no longer be obese.

And then there is the issue that always brings out the best - if we are obese, why do we not change the way we are. Here the reactions tend to be judgmental and emotional. One point tends to be ignored - those of us who are obese include people who choose to be that way. I find that this choice has to be conscious. Whether we like the way we are as obese people or not, by remaining the size we are we have chosen to be this size and not chosen to change our size.

There are all sorts of reasons for this choice. However, it is not true that by inference, this means that obese people are lazy or lack will power. It may be that obese people are happy with the way we are and have chosen to be this way. We have the will to make our choices and if we chose to be smaller, we would act upon that choice.

Yes, my view may not be an easy one to accept. Give it some thought. Everyone has the right to their own choice as long as long as that choice does not violate any laws. Let's allow obese people to make their own choices and deal with the pros and cons of being obese.

Just one very obese man's opinion.

well, i am an obese teenager. To be honest, it is gross and i wish i was an athletic girl with a good body, but its hard. I have been trying to lose weight and so far i have lose 9 pounds, but its not good enough. i think obese people as myself need the will power to get off their butts and actually do something to help themselves. I'm not doing this only to look good, but i want to be healthy. Other people are just out of control, and need some major help from an institute or something.

I'm not sure what you mean by opinions not facts.

Obesity isn't healthy and it doesn't look good. Obesity is a desease that needs to be treated. It's hard for them to lose weight cause they need a lot of patience and self-discipline, of which they obviously don't have enough.

It is the leading cause of diseases and is the costliest in terms of health care issues. Obesity causes joint problems, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, low self-esteem.
My opinions on obesity don't really matter as much as what happens if a person remains obese. It saddens me that the person cannot take care of themselves in a constructive way, however, I do know that people eat emotionally or they have other health problems that may pack on pounds. It's a very complex problem and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. The biggest problem is inactivity and overeating. I don't believe I said anything offensive here. Calling a human being gross is unacceptable to me. You can't really separate obesity issues from facts.

Bah Humbug to "Merry Christmas"; she needs a life and brain--badly. Personally, I don't like the term "obese": there's NO stigma for large people, aside those who are like Miss "Merry", only of a larger girth.

Seeings the country is so into "political correctness", why not some PC pundit create a more "smoother" term for those whose large body size is of medical concern.

"Husky" is way outdated for describing large children or men, of which a descriptive term for them escapes me.

Large attractive women ( yes, "Merry", there ARE many out there....) inspire me to create the term "rubenesque", which carries a senseous, romantic flair to the word.

I cheer publications who feature large men and women--a refreshing and most welcome break from the "Ken and Barbie" models so deeply conditioned in our society.

Large, Husky or Rubenesque: these people--like the "slims", also have feelings deserving merit, too.

I don't think fat people as gross and scary but i think its their own fault. Its their own decision that they are not working out to loose all that weight they are gaining. Unless their obesity is because of some disease or because of the use of medicine, its their own fault. They should want to have a feeling to lose the weight, they wouldn't want people talking about them and making fun of them.
