People who issue a blanket statement that smoking cigarettes will eventually kill you, and/or it will give you cancer are incorrect. The liklihood for a person to get cancer is determined by a person's genes. Sure, I know two people who have died of lung cancer... both were non-smokers their entire lives. The negative impact cigarettes have on a person's health is completely subjective. A woman by the name of Maria Ellis smoked cigarettes for 90 years. During her last days at the Eaton Lodge Nursing Home in Kent, England, in 2004, the 105-year-old had barely enough strength to smoke, but still managed one every morning. When she finally passed on, the nursing home staff honored her with a cigarette-themed funeral. The point is, most people do not live to be 90 years old. If cigarettes kill you, how can a woman not only live to be 90 years, but smoke for 90 years, and live to be 105?? Ms. Ellis is an extreme example that got a lot of attention because of the cigarette-themed funeral, but there are many other examples like her. Smokers regularly live into their 80's, 90's and 100's.
My theory: the tobacco industry is the scapegoat for industrial pollution. A friend of mine is a med student at UIC, and he's examined lungs from all different types of people. He said that there was little difference between the lungs of smokers and non-smokers, but a drastic difference between people who lived in urban areas vs. people who lived in rural areas. The people who lived in urban areas had a lot more lung damage. What happens if you put a person in a 20ft. By 20 ft. room with 10 smokers for an hour. Nothing much. What happens if you put the same person in the same room with a running gas motor for 20 minutes? The oxygen levels in their blood will drop and they will die of asphyxiation.
None of this should be interpreted as "smoking is not bad for anybody," or "smoking is good for you." All I'm saying is that smoking is not as bad as it's hyped out to be.

Smoking cigarettes affects your blood immediately. Once I stayed in hospital with a very nasty cut on my thumb. The nurse told me because I smoked after my operation, it would not start healing for another 8 hours. Every time you smoke, you kill many effects of blood for 8 hours. I didn't smoke again, and the next day it was as if I could SEE it getting better - wow. I always stop smoking if I get any kind of injury now.

1) Clogs your lungs with yucky tar stuff, ie feeling wheezy, coughing, feeling short of breath.
2) Raises cholesterol levels, resulting in ill health.
3) Causes heart probs, my uncle has just had a heart attack at 43, due to smoking.
4) You smell, even if you dont think you do- you do! Therefore no mates!!
5) Linked to diabetes, cancer, asthma, emphasema, I`m sorry the list goes on and on and on!
Please don`t start smoking if your trying it, leave it at that, dont get addicted.

it doesnt just affect physical health, cigarettes are just as addictive as any of the illegal drugs and withdrawal can be as bad. headaches, irrational anger, fidgets etc. the smartest thing anyone can do is not start in the first place.

ok.. makes your heart work harder
damages ya lungs
doesn't help with circulation (some smokers have to get limbs removed)

you have far less energy (i gave up and had more)

food tastes different

if you don't get nicotine, receptors in ya brain play up, even if you quit they are always in your brain..
