Are many educated people in certain cultures/ countries of this region so brainwashed that they find it difficult to recognize the truth?

Obviously, some people read between the lines and draw their own conclusions. Is this unusual?

Edit: It's happening again. People who are clueless -- as well as uninterested in the facts-- are posting lies in the travel section in yet another endeavor to foment hatred.

Propaganda is all pervasive in every country of the world. There is a certain strain in every nationality that are going to believe whatever someone tells them to believe. They are far too lazy to research the facts themselves. The media in our own country has discovered this and are using it to further their own views at the expense of the absolute truth. People of all countries are just too darned lazy or gullible to read the story, they all prefer their news in 30 second sound bites. It's easier than reading a 10 paragraph factual article. Not all people are gullible but enough to cause concern in every nation that claims to hold the truth dear.

Yes, they are. To these peoples, all news passes through two filters before it reaches their ears: the first is the official filter, resulting from exclusive state-run news sources, while the second is the unofficial social filter, which is a result of a society's general feeling about those depicted in the news source. In the case you bring for example, the Arab world is already poorly disposed towards Israel, so the negative attitude generated by the first filtering is already compounded by its perception by society. We with access to a variety of news sources and angles may be surprised at how much impact this limiting of knowledge can have, but history has given us a wealth of examples that show that knowledge itself has tremendous effect. Knowledge is power, after all.

It's extremely pervasive in US media. So much so, that it's possible, I believe, for even people who are well educated and free-thinking to be somewhat influenced by it. I try to get news and info from a variety of sources and consume news media critically. I try to be aware of slanted language and the way stories are framed. Honestly, though, I, too, am guilty of believing in and/or spouting propogandistic ideas. I turn to Christ for guidance.
A lot of people in the States don't seem to care much about news and current events. As such, it's very easy for Uncle Sam to shape their thoughts and understanding of the world. Plus, Americans tend to be pretty insulated. Given how involved we are around the world, that's gotta change.
I like snowcones.

Propaganda is a tool against people who are poor, illiterate, and are easily led to believe ridiculous things.
ie: the majority of Muslim countries.
Though propaganda exists in civilized areas as well you know. They are fools who are to be pitied.
